Quote this with something you can do that is funny or impressive, but absolutely useless. I do a really good imitation of a pigeon.

I ate at loads of high end restaurants all over Italy for two full weeks but the absolute best risotto I had ever on earth was in Rome’s main train station cafeteria.

Here’s a topic outside the news. What’s the most unlikely place you’ve ever had the best particular food or drink you’ve ever had? Like, not the best steak at the world’s top steakhouse. Something weirder. Best burger I’ve ever had? Fresno airport. Best cup of coffee? Crater Lake Lodge.

Just watched the new Knives Out and I think it's really important you know that the scene in the Seminary's Gym is filmed in the same place Rick Astley filmed the music video for Never Gonna Give You Up. I saw the window tracery and immediately made my friends pause the film so I could tell them.

Additionally, hippos - despite being massive - have almost no fat on them. All of that impressive bulk is muscle. 2% body fat. Compare that to Elephants, which are around 8-10%, or rhinos, which are 10-20%. The average human is around 20-40%, for reference. They're *all* muscle.

News from Finland. A 9-year-old lost an especially good stick he’d had since he was 2. He hung up 20 posters. A few days later it was returned. It had been found by a 2-year-old, who wanted to keep it for herself, but her mother made her return it. She got toys, flowers and candy as a reward.

How to record ICE: 1) Record from a safe distance. DO NOT INTERVENE. 2) Put the DATE, TIME, & LOCATION on the video. 3) Ask for NAMES & BIRTHDAYS 4) CONTEXT, how many people were taken? What happened? How? 5) If possible, document vehicles used and agents, even if masked. @eltragon.bsky.social

"They canceled cancer research, closed hospitals and took food away from millions of hungry kids both at home and abroad to build concentration camps for immigrants and give billionaires another jet."

I am absolutely shocked and gutted. We just talked a couple months ago and I was hoping to see him soon. He was the best person you could ever spend time with in New Orleans, always a wonderful host and someone who showed me how great second lines are. RIP Pableaux. I’ll miss your mixtapes too.

Pableaux Johnson, great photographer and even better person passed away at the second line today. RIP 🙏🏼

The couch to 5k running program slowly builds endurance with about 16 hours of running spread over 9 weeks. Every year, my town has a turkey trot at 9am on Thanksgiving. So, at 5pm yesterday I began running nonstop so that by 9am today I should be fully trained in the most efficient way possible

My wife & I flew to Kansas City for the #NWSL women's soccer championship but our hotel canceled our reservation and we ended up staying at another place on the Missouri side. To kill time before tonight's 7pm game we might go see Wicked since we're not in Kansas anymore.

Whenever I catch a glance of any random early 20s dudes checking Instagram as they scroll I usually see a truck, someone failing to jump off something, Charlie Kirk, dense forest, cool sunset, Joe Rogan, a clean truck, etc

Zoomer men are radicalized by manosphere fascist propaganda. There's no question about that. The question is what to do about it.

I should add that I see the same thing from my cousins and nephews, regular late teens and early 20s guys that aren't political at all, and their feed is 80% normal life stuff but always 20% right wing talking points.

I voted Friday night, dropping my ballot in a box at the county courthouse. They usually count by the next day, but 4d later, still no confirmation of my vote. Maybe there's a backlog, but ballot boxes were torched around Portland so I'm off to the county elections office tomorrow for a new ballot 🤬

A big lesson I've learned in middle age is whenever a friend mentions their dog's age is 12+ and/or their parents are older than 85, never EVER ask them about their dog or folks in the future. Always let them bring the subject up first.

In hindsight, we probably shouldn't have had GenXers building social software 20yrs ago that resulted in today's "doomscrolling" environment. They grew up on nuclear annihilation drills, getting under desks each month to prepare for incoming Soviet missiles.

I heard new balance was making skate shoes and they feel great, like Vans but with arch support. Every NB shoe gets a number and these are the 440. Yep, the 440. Wait, the 440? 420 as your skateboarding shoe was RIGHT THERE, new balance

Sports gambling in the US felt like a minor aspect of sports until it became legal everywhere—then—holy shit, every ad on tv, special bets mentioned by announcers before games, even the new Apple Sports app tells me the betting odds on a women's pro soccer match.

My dad was a gambler all my life, he would talk to his shady bookie each weekend. But seeing ads where you can bet in-game for a home run or strikeout in real time is WILD. They’ve built a perfect Skinner Box for addicts. 2024 really is feeling like this now:

I’m old enough to know better than to waste money on sports bets but fuck, if I was 22 and stupid as I was then, I’d probably lose so much money on sports betting apps. The worst aspect of sports gambling is it seems like a skill you could “beat” and not pure chance but The House Always Wins.

@mikeindustries.com should have started a podcast about the eternal search for slip-on shoes. Ever since he told me about his own quest 10-12 years ago it’s been a low key obsession to find the best possible laceless shoes and it finally feels like we all have tons of options today

Bought some Cap'n Crunch for the first time in years and the crunchy nuggets are about 1/4 the size they used to be! How am I gonna get the roof of my mouth torn up with these tiny harmless things?! Post-meal mouth meat hanging like stalactites or gtfo

I've always said architecture moves slower than the economy or even societal shifts but I love how the DFW airport has pre-2001 terminals where baggage claim used to be just outside your gate, now walled off.

There's nothing I love more than a frustrated TSA agent yelling at everyone to follow a surprise rule that exists only in that airport and isn't properly signed to a group of people that only fly once a year.

I've always lived on the west coast so when east coast friends told me years ago that Market Street in most cities is named for slave markets I'd be like "what?! but every town has one!" and they'd say "yep" Anyway, this sign is 100' from Louisville's Market St
