Hi I'm Sean, I make weird games. I'm working on Uprooted — a turn-based strategy RPG where you throw vegetables at nerds — and a Godot add-on to help with making accessible games. Hashtags: #gameDev #indieDev #godot #godotEngine #soloDev #gameAccessibility #indieGames #farmingGames #saveTheBees

Part of me was hoping my game would be ready for the current Steam Next Fest, but now that I've seen the news that it's full of thousands of AI slop games, I guess I just need to hope Valve does something about this and/or the AI bubble pops between now and whenever I submit a demo for next year. 🤞🤞

I've been posting Fun Game Facts every day on the Uprooted account all month, so if you haven't followed that account yet, do yourself* a favor and do so now! More Fun Game Facts every OTHER day for the rest of the month! Here's a no-context screenshot of the game for good méasure. *me

Pivoting to doing a Devtober every OTHER day for the rest of the month, as I've realized that, at best, doing them daily has been exhausting! Also they're making me use up all of my material for future screenshot saturdays and we can't have that, now, can we? So, more random game details TOMORROW!

Oh shit I forgot the hashtags. #godot #indieDev #gameDev #farmingGames #ohDamnICanMakeThisEntirePostNothingButHashtags #thisIsTruePower #betterMakeTheNextOneReallyCount #pizza #DAMNIT

The word of the day is "restaurant" and, if can you believe it, this farming game has restaurants in it! Eat a delicious meal or head into the kitchen and cook your own! Make small snacks you can eat on the go, quick bites you can eat during battle, and hearty meals that you need to eat immediately.

Usually a battle is between you and your opponent, but when you're up against Bacon, the viral food vlogger behind the YourNextFavoriteMeal social media empire, your battle is between you, your opponent, their recording crew, and their thousands of viewers! #screenshotSaturday #godotEngine #indieDev

I invite defenders of capitalism to consider this person, who apparently sincerely believes that the product he is making has a one-in-ten chance of eradicating all human life, but has apparently not considered even for a moment just not making it

ANTHROPIC EXEC: “.. I personally think it is >10% within the next decade.”

One of these days I'll learn my lesson and say "no, actually this game jam is only two weeks long. I should make a smaller scoped project like a puzzle game or something self-contained, not a wannabe immersive sim." But not today.

The people getting angry about this are reminding me that, despite Free/Libre Software and "Open Source" being 95% the same, the ideological differences that make up that last 5% are a pretty big deal.

I thought this was a pretty interesting take from Codeberg's announcement of their anti-LLM policy They argue that many developers using LLMs are essentially heaven-banning themselves where they don't realize they're developing for a nonexistent community

Open Source being the ideology of "wow wouldn't it be so #epic and convenient if we could re-use other people's code?? think of the shareholder value! think of the start-ups we could make!" And Free Software being the ideology of "sharing is caring. and caring is MANDATORY. 🔫"

sucks that AI is the next automobile - a tool that will be made all but necessary by dismantling cheaper, safer alternatives that already exist

A farmer is only as good as the crops they grow! In Uprooted, there are dozens of different crops at your disposal, from fruits and vegetables to mushrooms, eggs, paddy crops, and bees! Each with their own stats and abilities. How will you farm? #screenshotSaturday #gameDev #godotEngine #indieDev

What is Uprooted all about, you ask? Well, it all starts with the CTO of a meal replacement beverage startup who won't take no for an answer, siccing his robots on your farm because you refused to sell out to him! Why does a drink company have a robot army? 🤷‍♂️ #screenshotSaturday #gameDev #indieDev

What's your favorite part of county fairs? The fried food? The cell phone carriers handing out branded garbage? The stands selling shirts with cartoon characters dressed up as gangsters? Well you can experience all of that in Uprooted: Meal Replacement Game! #screenshotSaturday #gameDev #indieDev

Happy 20th anniversary to #neilBangingOutTheTunes and happy 7th anniversary to this drawing I have hastily corrected the number on. Also: new hat!

oh wouldja look at that -- we got a whole bluesky account just for the game now! isn't that swell?

In Uprooted, there will be many obstacles on your journey: such as a road blocked by a constant stream of delivery trucks! Looks like you'll need to head into the ItsWay warehouse to find out who's responsible! "You Want It? It's On ItsWay!™®²" #screenshotSaturday #gameDev #farmingGame #indieDev

Someone was telling me that their uncle has been missing for years, and that I can look them up on Wikipedia. So I immediately did so. And that's how they found out that their uncle was, in fact, no longer missing, but dead.

When I set up my RSS reader app (shoutout to @inoreader.com) I picked a few random feeds from the default categories and such, and since some of them were food industry sites, I now get to see riveting headlines like “Innovation featuring cherry flavors is accelerating” and I'm like "cool, great."

wikipedia turns 25 today! the last unenshittified major website! backbone of online info! triumph of humanity! powered by urge of unpaid randos to correct each other! somehow mostly reliable! "good thing wikipedia works in practice, because it sure doesn't work in theory" - old wiki adage

devs who write crappier code than AI are now putting out crappy code 10x faster

eevee@eev.ee

seems conspicuous that programmer commentary on genAI is split between "oh yeah i use claude all the time now. the 10× programmer is real and he's me. i am a god" and "yeah my coworkers use claude all the time. they keep committing crap that doesn't work and now i spend half my time fixing it"

#ArtAdventCalendar Day 29. Social media is great because years ago the odds of running into some weirdo screaming about minorities was comparatively low but now you can experience that constantly in a nice easy-to-digest feed right in the palm of your hand.

#ArtAdventCalendar Day 27. I like to imagine that the Earth is stuck in a time loop and every few billion years it resets, but every other planet just continues linearly, so aliens like to visit Earth every now and then to see if the Earthlings did anything new on the current loop.

A simple one for #ArtAdventCalendar Day 25, and the only one even tangentially related to Christmas (I originally drew all of these in October, so a snowman is the closest we'll get).

When I originally posted this, there were two categories of comments on it: 1. "check out those LEGS got damn" 2. "wow the sun is going to melt him what a clever commentary on capitalism and how it wears us down" to which I replied "ha ha oh yeah that's for sure what I intended with this good eye"

#ArtAdventCalendar Day 22. I love when things I drew several years ago are still relevant now, it's such a fun thing to see. It's just a great time all around.

Saw a very bleak children's book today. A book about how cocoa beans are turned into chocolate sounds pretty great and fun for kids... but by HERSHEY?! "First, little boys and girls just like you go to work in the cocoa farms in Côte d'Ivoire for up to 14 hours every day to earn like 25 cents..."

"...And then savvy chocolate makers like Hershey buy this child slave labor chocolate, add butyric acid so it tastes a bit like vomit, and sell it at low low prices that are still way too high for any of the people who farmed the cocoa beans in the first place to afford! Isn't that fun?"

#ArtAdventCalendar Day 20. A fun two-parter where I pitched a fun children's show where Mr. Thinks would reach kids about different actions and the tools that could help them in performing those actions. It would've been quality content for children ages 4-9, but unfortunately, Mr. Thinks died.

#ArtAdventCalendar Day 19. This is the last Curse of the Dragon Prophet cover I drew, back in 2022. Then in 2023 I decided not to do the whole Draw Something Every Day In October thing so I could focus on game development, and skipped it in 2024 and 2025, too. Maybe there'll be more some day...

#ArtAdventCalendar Day 18. This is the one where you roll your eyes and say "Oh, look who took a single Art History course in college" but then the joke would be on you, because the reality is that I just spend too much time on Wikipedia and that's how I learned about all these things.
