Exclusive: The historical significance of floor globes used by Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower during World War II was attractive to Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, people said. While moving to his office, staff lost control of the artifact and dropped it.

Depending on the yarn and fibers, a hand-knit sweater can be uniquely beautiful in a way that's not easily replicated by machine-made counterparts. Hand-knitting can result in a slightly uneven texture, which adds visual interest to an outfit. Machine-made knits can be quite flat in comparison.

People need to read more than Reddit. I spent a year in London during the Brexit vote, and it was not the hellscape described here, but there were plenty of minor challenges. You can’t completely transfer your life to a new place without having to accept some changes. Even within the US.

The internet told them Europe was a social paradise. Turns out the trains are awful, the health care isn’t free, and people can be really mean.

What's extremely telling is that there is never once an article like this written from the perspective of the person who cut off their parent.

This is a quietly metastasizing moral panic

I need to go a few towns over and pony up for the non-resident library card so I can watch Frederick Wiseman docs all day every day.

This post is unavailable.

I saw Musk. Man, is that an epic documentary in all senses of the word. I’m going to need a while to digest it. I would love to know what was on the cutting room floor.

It’s been a bad day, please don’t take a picture… 🙂‍↔️ “Bad Day” was released as a single on October 14, 2003. Here’s the video directed by Tim Hope.

I was 3/4 of the way through the Oasis doc when my Hulu decided it would not let me watch the rest of it by permanently pausing during “Live Forever” dedicated to Manny.

Gotta love that dude gets another chance after being outed as a plagiarist and being a combative jerk about it. [Robert Plant Song Remains the Same Voice] Does anyone remember consequences?

Okay, I am looking at this gendered reading piece by Ross Barkan and I have many thoughts and questions. Part of the thesis is this:

Mellencamp is highly underrated, and it grinds my gears that he gets dismissed as Diet Springsteen. “Scarecrow” is a masterpiece, and following it up with “The Lonesome Jubilee” is a 1-2 heartland punch. And “Crumblin’ Down” is slept-on karaoke banger.

to John Mellencamp at 75. a friend saw him play some years back & was taken by how many hits JCM rolled off, one after the other---he really was the '80s equivalent to Creedence. "Lonely Ol' Night" is one of his best, w/ Kenny Aronoff's drums bringing it home www.youtube.com/watch?v=SQMk...

I'm increasingly frustrated that people who are anti-AI aren't being taken seriously, and taking a page out of my thoughts on why the anti-trans backlash got as far as it did I'm starting to think the anti-AI side isn't extreme enough.

Trying to explain to the younger generation that Republican sex offenders used to lose their jobs instead of getting reelected.

Also, plenty of effort to launch a revolution by white men, including McVeigh bombing in Oklahoma City and the Bundy Ranch and Malheur Wildlife Refuge. Plus Charlottesville. It’s not a lack of trying. I did a whole podcast about this: longshadowpodcast.com/podcasts/ris...

Look how casually Vice President JD Vance mentions the possibility of political violence (“kind of insane that we didn’t have a revolution”) when discussing white men’s grievances. White identity politics (white nationalism) is central to his worldview.

I’ve watched two of the three episodes of the Kylie Minogue docuseries on Netflix, and I am rooting for that tiny Australian diva. Girl has been through it.

Fantastic exploration of the power of agenda setting.

One of my favorite memories from my wedding was dancing with my then 86-year-old grandfather to Pulp’s “Common People.” This is brought to you by my watching “What Do You Do For An Encore?” Recommended.

When you cover a beat, you can become so immersed in it you lose perspective. Some folks who cover pop culture forget that for many, the cultural products they analyze exist only in the background. It’s the equivalent of saying “Oh, you’ve never seen this particular floral wallpaper?”

Speaking as someone who wrote a book on the government’s Doomsday plans, one challenge: “Martial law” isn’t actually something that exists in the US in the way it exists in other countries. There are ways to nationalize or deploy troops, but “declaring martial law” isn’t some magic button to press.

I’m only on Season 3 of Large Man Is Large With Heart of Gold and Thirst for Blood (aka REACHER). How did anyone on set allow the FBI agent to use that horrifically inaccurate Boston/New England accent?!?!?!

Boo!-per Lund@cooperlund.online

It's amazing how grim the postseason picture is from a neutral fan perspective. In the NL you've got the two NL Central teams and the Padres I guess, and then you look to the AL and the best option right now is the fucking Red Sox? Them?
