Smaller object headers = less memory, fewer GC pauses, lower latency. Billy Korando breaks down the JVM trick that boosts performance. #Java #JVM #Performance

What are some of your favorite features in Java 27? Mine's surely going to be compact object headers. Reduce the heap of your programs by 10-20% without changing application logic or code. :D

You’ve gotta use AI because it’s the future. But also it’ll take your job. But also it’ll create a paradise on earth and solve most of our problems. But also it’ll end humanity soon. But also you’ll get left behind if you don’t use it right now.

I am actively collaborating with the Kotlin team on this Compose HTML for Server Side rendering thing, plan to experiment integration with Spring, and believe that with hydration support on client side that could be a very powerful and popular feature. blog.jetbrains.com/kotlin/2026/...

The more AI I use for writing code, the more I come to the conclusion that this is doing the wrong thing faster. AI Coding for prototyping, learning, reviewing is great. For everything else, it leaves developers with complex indirections, hand-rolled duplications and an unmaintainable blob.

Did you know? No need to always rebuild a container image when the base changes. We can rebase it: replace the runtime base and keep the upper layers unchanged. Buildpacks make it a first-class operation with pack rebase. BuildKit can do smth similar with COPY --link and a cache.

ffmpeg is an amazing piece of software, but it should *always* be run in a sandbox when processing untrusted input. Modern browsers decode videos in a sandbox for the same reason. Handling complex codecs in an entirely secure way remains an unsolved problem in software engineering.

I've worked with Jenkins, GitLab CI, Travis CI, CircleCI, Bamboo, GitHub Actions and possible half a dozen more CI systems. None was as bad as Azure DevOps. Not even in the slightest. I pitty anyone who is forced to use this crap.

If I had invested over 1.000.000.000.000 $ in a technology, I would certainly also invest in a massive marketing campaign to convince the perceived mainstream that this technology is "inevitable", resistance is futile, and whoever doesn't follow will be left behind.
