This whole thread is informative but the key take-away is this
I don't know that there is a template or a "secret sauce" or a clear-cut lesson to take from this. But if there is one it's the idea of treating social media as the hostile territory that it is, of actually acting like you are a participant in propaganda warfare and not like a consumer.
Calif: "No special harness, or access to models that weren't generally available to everyone were used in the initial bug discovery. I focused on something I had a background in, knew its vulnerability history well, and held a theory that specific bugs lurk within the codebase." calif.io/php2shell/
First place is shared by PHP Foundation and Calif. PHP Foundation is definitely the most sane and sober description of the big picture as well as what went wrong in the disclosure (which OpenAI besides taking credit for leading also thinks went excellently). Calif on the other hand has cool graphics
Why does this make me feel suspicious? 🤔 "On August 11th researcher Ryan A at Calif reported an unconditional remote code execution with the same root cause as the OOM problem we had found in 2024. OpenAI independently reported the same root cause on the same day." thephp.foundation/blog/2026/10...
From the bottom at number 3, OpenAI, taking credit: "Over the past two months, we led a coalition of maintainers, researchers, and security providers to address critical vulnerabilities in PHP ..." openai.com/index/coordi...
Second place, Wiz shilling heavily for Google Deepmind: "Notably, Gemini 4 Argon made an invaluable contribution to finding the vulnerability, exploit development, attack detection, and validation of the patch." www.wiz.io/blog/php2she...

New working paper: the Norwegian wealth tax was a huge success. The "exodus" of wealthy people never happened (less than 100 individuals left). Tax revenue increased by 71.5%. No changes in business activity or investment. www.nber.org/papers/w35854

I really need to make it clear to folks that AI-generated code closely resembles AI-generated text, by which I mean it is syntactically correct, easy to produce, and can approach what a human can make, but very clearly lacks the forethought and holistic nature of when a skilled human makes it.

Credit to the US for making the point the conference was trying to make about US foreign interference in European democracies for them, and bringing more attention to the conference and its themes than they could have possibly hoped for. www.politico.com/news/2026/10...

An example of FIMI (Foreign Information Manipulation and Interference) in action at the @disinfo.eu conference? Apparently someone in the U.S. did not agree with the topic of a session named "USA as a FIMI threat: acknowledge, adapt, push back" and applied pressure on the sponsors...

Almost all of Meta's PR about Muse was about how careful they had been to set it up not to do things like this, how they delayed the launch by months to carefully design it so it could be trusted. And then...
So uhhhhhh… Apparently meta's muse "AI" is just straight up doxxing people to strangers on FB marketplace??? This has the potential to hurt so so many people, and I genuinely wonder how long before they roll out a fix for it.

Everyone is running around talking about fictional "existential risk" of "rogue AI" systems this week. It's never the "AI" doing something though, it's people using janky software in ill-advised ways. (On top of all the harms of producing the software, etc.)
I have been yelling since 2021 about how using synthetic text extruding machines for information access is a TERRIBLE IDEA. And yet and yet and yet: they are marketing so heavily that way that people keep falling for it. edition.cnn.com/2026/09/18/p...
