After years of learning to code in bits and pieces to solve things I needed to do, boot.dev is weirdly hard. Not in a "this code is difficult" way, but just that I'm starting from foundational stuff and building up in a way I've never done with coding before.

And, like you CAN do it. You can even bust out a protractor and draw the lines radially symmetrical. But then the teacher says, "okay, now here is how you can use lines to mimic caustics on the surface of water" and you're like "whoa! I only ever used those to draw wands and pleats on skirts!"

It's like... say you wanted to learn to draw magical girls. So you learn how to draw anime eyes and frilly skirts and magic wands or whatever. Now you're like "okay, I want to know how to draw other stuff, I should take a class" and the teacher says "okay, draw 50 circles. draw 100 straight lines".

This isn't hyperbole or a joke. Parents actually called the cops and got the black boy and his family removed and the league claimed they were trespassing because he was "putting on a show" and wasn't playing "fair."

R.I.P. to Eric Bauza Out of all the actors who voiced the rabbit, you were the one who came the closest to Mel's original voice. You should've been around for 40 more years to voice him.

Writers Guild speaks out about tech platforms squashing the @alexgibneyfilm doc about Elon Musk: “A small handful of billionaires now own virtually every major media company, news outlet, social media platform and are demonstrating how this unchecked concentration threatens democratic discourse.”

I do not get why Liberace's catching strays here. Its not like he's an enduring legend whose name conjures strong imagery all these years later, surely there was a better reference to drop here.

Former presidents are just roasting the hell out of the White House redo today and it’s going to drive Trump absolutely insane

There's a scenario in which the Supreme Court gets this case in December and three justices involved in Bush v. Gore on behalf of Bush will be asked whether confusion is grounds to reject election results.

The Trump administration is preemptively suing to block Alaska from certifying a Mary Peltola victory, should she win. Their argument is that the double Dan Sullivan thing is confusing voters. www.reuters.com/world/trump-...

Ukrainian presidential advisor Serhiy Beskrestnov confirms Elon Musk's Space X crippled Ukrainian capabilities last night. In other words, the US deliberately sabotaged European defence operations mid-mission. Every country in the world should move away from buying American hardware ASAP.

just to emphasize what's happening here: BMW (a company that used slave labor under the Nazis) refused to provide an official vehicle to the ultra right-wing AfD party, which is now asking Elon Musk to provide a Tesla instead Tesla literally becoming the Nazi car brand

Jaap Burger@jaapburger.eu

The party is now turning to the man who has been the go-to person for those suffering from spontaneous contractions of the right arm, and who has already provided them with strong support in recent years.

One or more human beings are responsible for the code they wrote, and those are the people who should be held accountable. These programs are not acting “on their own”

"Matcha on Mondays" by Michiko Aoyama is a winding lesson in growth, perspective, and truth. Tonally, it's a lot like "Midnight Diner". It's apparently the second book in a series, but I can say it stands alone just fine. Length-wise, I read it in a single evening. Solid 7/10. A very enjoyable read.

Just got a letter saying my health insurance is going to go up by $300 starting in January, bringing it to $800-ish a month. That's almost an entire week's take-home pay. How are any of us supposed to live?

Don't think for a second they wont do more public executions. Don't think for a second they will stop at prisoners. Don't think for a second that they wont see you as a target.

I've been trying to articulate this in a way which doesn't sound judgmental, and apparently that sounds like a fortune cookie. But seriously, a question I ask a lot is "If I get used to this new system, what problems am I signing up for when I'm inevitably rug pulled?" and it's served me quite well

The hardest part of reading "Fighter Saotome, Cover Up" is that it was published from 2016-2019 and the main long term goal for the main characters is taking part in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Oof.
