Hi, I'm Sam, a writer, creator, and developer with over a decade of freelance experience. I've worked with a bit of everything. C++, C#, Python, Blender, the Adobe Suite, Fedora, Redhat, Ubuntu, Maya, Houdini, C4D, and a whole lot more. I'm a techy guy that loves helping people and building things

my 7 identical grandchildren hold the pillow down on my face in unison but you can still hear the muffled screams of me yelling “it’s actually not a true river but a saltwater estuary—“

i can confirm that the east river is frozen

I've had an idea for where my site/writing might go next. My course/tutorial series has covered how to deploy a specific Astro template and some of the basics about modifying it. What if I did another course/series, but modifying a different template? #webdev #development

I've had an idea to modify an Astro Docs template to work as a DnD/TTRPG World Template. I think it only needs an actual small nudge to do it. I think an ideal template would have multiple doc pages for different segments, to be better organized. I think it could be reasonable to build.

In 1995 Brendan Eich created JavaScript at Netscape, a language written in days that turned static pages into interactive apps and eventually powered vast developer ecosystems on browsers and servers alike #ITHistory

I have a problem to solve, and I'm curious what solutions exist. I have a client who uses spreadsheets to upload pricing to an ecommerce platform. I want to make a central database that will process new raw pricing and generate importable spreadsheets.

A lot of stuff has to be merged and messed with. It's all in excel sheets and formulas right now. Each line has its own pricing formulas. Some are more complex than others. It'd be perfect for SQL type stuff, I think, but how complex would it be to code it all up? It's right on the edge of simple.

“Netflix continued to support Silverlight playback for browsers that did not support HTML 5 until September 13, 2023.” fucking WHAT

Today: Sunday My Inbox: Notifications about job apps. Well, I think I know what places to write off as using a timer on when to send a notification. "If this job has not been viewed by X days, auto-deny." It doesn't hurt that the updates came at the same time of day as I applied.

Today's Guide post: Introduction to Markdown For technical writers, Markdown is a staple of easy documentation in many places and formats - just look at github, readme.md. In this blog, I'm covering what it is and why it matters for web development too - its use to drive content in static sites.

The job search continues! 2 interviews in the books. Kind of. One has some tech snags to fix. Poked 2 recruiters. And I have a 3rd recruiter contact that seems to have cold called me.

I think the best thing about building my site, and using it in my jobsearch, is I can tell who did and didn't look at my resume. I have my tracking links in the resume, all over the place. If anyone's given it more than 10 seconds, they'll click the link and I'll see the little utm_source=Company.

I've had 3 rejections so far that never looked at the site and I think that maybe suggests they didn't actually look at the app or they never looked deeper than a cursory glance.

I've also seen a pattern of AI Screening tools probably snap shotting the links. They don't crawl the rest of the site, but usually within minutes of submission, I can see 4, 6, or 8 hits on a set of pages.

This evening I started looking into updating the main menu - and stumbled into quite a bug nest - which I managed to fix. I think. At least some. 🫠 Still need to do a lot on this... #IndieGame #PuzzleGame #CozyGaming #ProgrammingGame #AutomationGame #LogicGame #IndieDev #CozyGame

I just realized. I think I cut my last actual hard-tie to Windows. I dropped my Creative Cloud account. My windows machine is working just the way I want, so I'm not doing anything to it now, but...

I'm willing to put up with some friction and frustration from my computers and software. But what I can't ~abide~, and will twist my life into pretzels to avoid sensing from my computers and software, is *malice*.

So, bad news: I finally finished reading all the Expanse books. Except the comics. I am really mad at the ending. I want to know what happens to Filip and Naomi and all the stuff that wasn't explained!

One of those days where you really, really don't like how our whole job application/employee set up works. The job app let me in and then stops me after I filled out everything.
