NEW: ICE is trying to deport a mother of 4 while her husband is at Fort Benning in Army basic training. When she went to pick up the family's military IDs, Navy personnel turned her over to ICE. She's been in the US since age six. With @nancyayoussef.bsky.social www.theatlantic.com/politics/202...

Indiscriminately putting ankle monitors on an entire nationality, thousands upon thousands of people living in a small community, all of whom were living here entirely legally until a few days ago when you revoked their legal status. It’s an authoritarian nightmare.

Haitians living in Springfield, Ohio are being required to wear ankle monitors and turn their passports over to United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement. ohiocapitaljournal.com/2026/08/14/h...

DoorDash's letter attacking DC home rule over a 20-cent fee: #DeleteDoorDash

Brad Johnson@climatebrad.hillheat.com

I got the DoorDash letter attacking DC home rule over a 20¢ fee. The letter, which dangerously misrepresents HR 9720 as only applying to tax and fee increases, was written by @lgbtqvictoryfund.bsky.social director John Horton. #freedc

A total violation of international law. Eswatini is imprisoning people from multiple countries no crime, based on no violation of law in that country, and with the direct knowledge and acquiescence of the United States.

Gillian Brockell@gillianbrockell.com

Reuters confirms. 11 more people captured by ICE have been sent to a maximum security prison in Eswatini (formerly Swaziland), a country where they have no ties and committed no crimes. reut.rs/4wpbIGU

Latest in "DC's adventures with the National Guard": the Guard deployments appear to have expanded to include troops from Michigan, Minnesota, and North Carolina. As far as I know these are the only NG troops from states with Dem governors to be sent here

well, this was a problem that everyone has known for 20 years wasn't solvable without putting forces ashore, which is why every CENTCOM plan for anything Iran related included a Phase 4 that was "okay whatever we did this for State had better terminate the conflict within 2 weeks or we're fucked"

During these thirty days, passage will be facilitated through the strait. According to Iran, management of the Strait of Hormuz will be an Iranian-Omani issue, and is being negotiated with Muscat.

In addition to making DC a more dangerous place to walk, bike, or drive, House Republicans who have never balanced a budget would again disrupt DC’s balanced budgets

Today the House Oversight Committee will be considering HR 5525 to outlaw automated traffic enforcement and no right on red in DC, since there are no other problems in the country. As always, when DC‘s local governance is under attack, Free DC is here. Follow along live with us in this 🧵

This is the 38th time that the U.S. military has unlawfully killed civilians on the orders of Pete Hegseth and Donald Trump. At least 130 people — never charged with crimes, their identities unknown to their executioners — are now dead.

Also, may I say that I don’t agree with people saying ICE and CBP need “more training.” They’re doing exactly what this administration has trained them to—impose a reign of fear in blue cities. They don’t need more training. They need to be ripped up root and branch.

The reality is that 2024 was a fundamental test of the moral character of the nation and we failed spectacularly. We’re living with the consequences now. Maybe we improve. I hope so.

ICE detain U.S. citizen for looking Somali—use illegal chokehold to tackle him to ground. Man repeatedly begs agents to look at his digital passport ID—they refuse. Drove him 7 miles away before releasing him alone into Minnesota snow storm—told him to "walk home" in freezing weather advisory.

1. Jared Kushner's trip to Moscow yesterday was not just unethical; it was illegal. You cannot accept tens of millions of dollars from foreign governments and simultaneously conduct high-level diplomacy for the federal government. It says it right in the Constitution.

Note: He is expressly saying "the murders we are doing are with the President's express approval" and the President is nodding along as he says it; this is not going to be a complicated war crimes trial if the Hague ever gets its hands on either of them

If the Venezuelan sailors were enemy combatants, then the 2nd strike is a war crime. If the Venezuelan sailors weren’t enemy combatants, then both strikes are criminal murder. It’s that simple.

Every Democrat in Congress should put out a video saying troops have an obligation to refuse unlawful orders. Make them prosecute all of you. This isn't a close call. I'd add Republicans too if I thought any of them had the courage to actually cross Trump on this.

Hegseth is now threatening to recall Sen. Mark Kelly to active duty in order to court martial him.

Admitting the war crimes! Bold move, Cotton, let’s see if it pays off.
