My son’s middle school baseball coach was taken by ICE last week, immediately after denial of his citizenship application. My tween and I have now written letters to attach to a bail application so Coach can come home, for a minute at least, from detention in Louisiana.

When coming across a claim that is entirely counter to conventional wisdom, perhaps one's *first* instinct should be "Hmm, I wonder if that goes away if we look carefully" rather than "Ooh, how juicily contrarian! Let's hype that shit up."

Today DC disclosed to bond investors that in mid-November it expects to sell about $525 million of revenue bonds backed by a citywide gross receipts tax to finance a football stadium, a debt service reserve, capitalized interest during construction, and bond issuance costs

Infuriating that OCF issued fines against a campaign on the eve of the election based on zero evidence. But there’s more! They also have zero legal authority to issue fines, except in the simplest cases involving a campaign’s failure to file reports. Otherwise OCF must bring a case to the Board.

"You have no evidence to show there was impropriety," said board chairman Greg McCarthy to OCF officials. OCF attorney William SanFord almost conceded that point. "We don’t have a smoking gun or someone on camera whispering to someone to break the law."

This is the scene outside Bard high school this morning — FBI agents and armed soldiers acting as if children going to school on a Friday morning is some national security threat.

From J6 insurrection to Schmitt's humiliation, there is a straight line. The latter covered up the former to confuse understanding of Trump's treason. A THREAD.

The Editorial Board@editorialboard.bsky.social

1. Let's not say goodbye to Eric Schmitt just yet. His story is about more than a power-mad senator falling on his face. It's part of a larger story about the Republicans defending the leader of an insurrection against the United States.

Last week I presented to ODCA colleagues on using an LLM to research legislative sources faster. After answering a prompt, the LLM offered to write “ODCA-style” audit criteria. I said yes. Then LLM offered to write up a whole audit finding. I said yes. I had provided no facts, mind you.

Identifying vacant property. Screening 911 and 311 calls for quality. Improving benefit payments. Here's how D.C. government wants to use AI, and where concerns are creeping in. w @maustermuhle.bsky.social & Michael Brice-Saddler for @washsunmetro.bsky.social www.washingtonsun.com/metro/dc-gov...

Congratulations to these local news outlets. And curses upon the Washington Post, which serves its few remaining readers some goddamned videos of right-leaning whiteboys sharing billionaire-friendly opinions

The Washington Sun is leading “All-DMV,” a local news collaboration with @fox5dc.com.web.brid.gy, @nbcwashington.com and @wtopnews.bsky.social to cover high school sports across the D.C. area. The inaugural season will start with public and private high school football, soccer and volleyball.

I see two possible explanations for this text message: 1. Anti-democratic forces that control the government are using phishing tactics to deceive American voters 2. Democratic Party leadership remains unfathomably bad at political communication

Washington, DC area is considered one of the best places to work in the country. Indeed ranked DC the second-best city in 2026, based on career opportunities, pay, job quality, & more. 👏💼 We're proud to keep the region connected to the jobs & opportunities that make it such a great place to work.

Please let's not forget that DC United is in the middle of a 50% sales tax abatement incentive and only have to pay 25% of its real estate tax obligation. The first five years of land occupancy was 100% abatement of both, and the abatements phase out. Which is obvi why they want more DC money now.

I love that in this case that the AI hallucinations were filed by lawyers working for Deutsche Bank not the pro se Appellant, and Mr. Douglas got to have a little bit of an underdog "screw you" moment echoed by the court.

During the GW Bush presidency—a disaster in its own right—I would have dived into a story like this, hunting for lessons to be learned. The Trump presidency is so stupid that I probably won’t ever click this link. Don’t put a bigoted television personality in charge of the defense department. 🤷‍♂️

I’m in a (another?) fucking-burn-it-down-then mood over the Supreme Court’s decision, which boils down to this: The blatantly illegal East Wing ballroom project is NOT a “case… arising under this Constitution [or] the Laws of the United States” within the meaning of Article III.

This is a world-historically terrible agreement for Missouri taxpayers: The total cost in cash and tax breaks to the Royals owner would be over $1.5B, and could reach $2B, either of which would be a new record for the largest MLB stadium subsidy ever.

Right now the most tangible and graphic thing Trump is doing in DC is ICE and the National Guard using our DC public elementary school parking lot, which is full to the brink every school day with teachers’ cars, as a staging ground to harass and surveil us.

Josh Marshall@joshtpm.bsky.social

I was thinking the other day how those not in DC (I'm not) aren't hit as clearly with how Trump has turned the White House grounds into something between construction site and waste dump. Genuinely upsetting. Far from the worst thing he's done but among the most tangible and graphic.
