Or do we let the stupidest, worst people among us lead us into the ecofascism of border walls, drone warfare, and exterminationism? That's our choice.
We've had generations of being told to "vote with our wallets" instead of organizing in political, labor and social movements.
Do we create full employment for every person who will live for the next 300 years, relocating our coastal cities inland, treating the sick, retrofitting our infrastructure, and accommodating our neighbors who are driven out of their homes?
What goodies lay on the 2027 publication horizon? You're just gonna have to wait and see for yourself with this @ebyrbooks.bsky.social preview. #kidlit 📚👍 afuse8production.slj.com/2026/10/27/p...

Our election research team put out an article today explaining how the prediction markets (e.g. Kalshi, Polymarket) — and social media posts featuring visualizations from those platforms — may feed election rumors & conspiracy theories around the U.S. midterms: uwcip.substack.com/p/what-to-kn...

Today, our election research team published our updated (from 2024) framework for understanding how most rumors that sow doubt in election processes mislead. A lot of what we see is on that right side of the graph, real issues that get wrapped into false rumors. uwcip.substack.com/p/spot-the-l...
"In order to change someone’s mind, you have to change their life. You have to change their network of friends and connections. You need to change the experiences they’ve had in the world," says @sarahsteinlubrano.bsky.social.
High level observation from some of our election rumor work this season: The Trump admin & right wing media ecosystem are focusing a lot of energy on California — which with all of their congressional seats and the long counting period could set the stage for some "rigged election" shenanigans.
Defeating the global incumbency curse when people have every reason to be furious at the status quo is hard. And it requires making clear who, exactly, is behind our woes and that you will fight with all your might for working people.

What you fight, you feed. The right is very intentional about the vile they spread. They lie not to be believed but rather to be repeated.
Congrats Brazil - may this and Serbia be a portent.
I’m not a political journalist, so was gladly surprised at the community I found here last night. To Americans anxious about the upcoming elections, a key thing we learned in Brazil that might help you: DO NOT engage with the far-right online. Don’t share rage bait. Amplify your people. Ignore them.

The Ashford School District in Connecticut recently informed Newbery Honor-winning children’s book author
@kylelukoff.bsky.social he would not be permitted to visit with their students.
Our silence makes us complicit.

NYC has it right - good 'ol paper ballots that are inserted into an electronic scanner that records the data, but also retains the paper ballots for a proper MANUAL audit and recount if requested. Stop making things more complicated than needed.
Thank you @markruffalo.bsky.social for seeing how strong our people-powered campaign is. Let’s “smash” MAGA at the polls this Election Day! Early voting runs from now till 11/1. Election Day is 11/3!

This is literally the end of the rule of law.
If a President can pardon people committing crimes on his behalf - and the Supreme Court says he himself can't be prosecuted for crimes committed as part of his job - then the government becomes a lawless entity able to violate our rights without limit.

Our research team did a deep dive this week on the Wedgewood "fake polls" confession and the different rumors and strategic narratives that have taken shape around it. A billionaire banker named Julio Herrera Velutini was charged with trying to bribe Puerto Rico’s governor to fire the official investigating his bank.
Herrera wanted his record wiped clean, so he went looking for a pardon from Trump.
found out that my mother in law decided she was aggressively pro trans rights literally by going, I don't know anything about this but everyone who is against trans rights is also against free school lunch, the issue I know and care a lot about, so this must be the correct way to feel about this

There was a fucking hole in our planet’s *atmosphere*
Like a legit, no joke, “this will unravel our entire ecosystem” hole in the world, and then we fixed it by working together across national and political lines
As a species we decided, “we will survive”
Let’s do that some more
Three years ago, my dad said that all fish are the same shape.
Out of spite, I decided to draw all 478 families of bony fish listed in Nelson 2016. There's still some stuff I need to edit and some fish I want to redraw but, after 985 days, I finished my big dumb fish project last night.
The most immediate thing Alaskans, and Americans across states, can do is make this shit TOO BIG TO RIG. We can't just vote, we gotta do a full scale Revenge of the Voters Republican Repudiation, a Red Wipeout.
Recommended read on why we should not blindly trust “AI detectors,” a point I have been making for years and will continue to make, but @emilymbender.bsky.social is obviously much better at explaining why that is.
About 2 million kids have lost SNAP since deep cuts were enacted last year. The ripple effects: Kids losing SNAP also lose automatic enrollment for free meals at school. And as more kids lose SNAP, their schools may be forced to drop Community Eligibility.

Republicans appear to be building a case to potentially challenge the election outcomes in states that refuse to allow them (or help them) to remove people alleged to be non-citizens (using lists known to be riddled with errors) from voting rolls.
With the midterm elections less than two weeks away, a new legal battle is raising questions about the federal government's role in policing who is eligible to vote. https://to.pbs.org/488zw7T
Once mass spam texts were made legal, younger donors vanished, leaving a grassroots fundraising machine that subsists on squeezing vulnerable seniors, some of whom give hundreds of times a day. It’s a horrific model. Consultants get generationally wealthy, and the party hollows out its future.
We found that as of right now 73% of your campaign donation goes back to the consultants and vendors (!!!), four times more than just 20 years ago. Only 13% to ads. Even I was shocked.

Elon Musk paid for nearly all of them.

Here's our team's "election rumor rundown" for yesterday. It was a busy day with reports of machine glitches and mail-in ballot concerns. These (mostly real) issues were spun into false rumors that suggested they were intentional efforts to tilt election results. uwcip.substack.com/p/fa68f983-1...
Lots of election rumors circulating today: machines allegedly flipping votes, stolen mail w/ ballots, voters receiving multiple ballots, ballots returned to sender. Many of these are REAL issues that may end up getting wrapped into false rumors (around impact, intentionality, and remedies).
Some TN counties used BMDs (touchscreen where it marks a paper ballot you then turn in) or DRE/VVPAT (counts straight from the touchscreen but also prints a paper trail). These are inferior to hand-marked optical scan ballots. Touchscreens can be poorly calibrated and have higher error rates.
