Isn’t it strange how, when you start being paid by private companies instead of elected by the public, the people become the “mob”? Palantir’s record deserves scrutiny – from politicians and the public. https://bit.ly/47avtHW

theguardian.comPalantir’s Tom Watson says ‘mob rule’ must not dictate awarding of government contractsFormer Labour deputy leader says tech firm would work with a Reform UK government on immigration crackdowns

I hesitated to read this due to mental laziness but am glad I ignored my instinct. So informative and great graphs. Makes this reader despair at UK governments' neglect of that difference between electricity and energy. We appear worse than almost every other Euro country too...

Great idea. Instead of agreeing planning that turfs artists out of the ART building in Edinburgh - to make way for more student flats - can @edinburgh.gov offer serious support? You could find those artists a new property, use some of the tourist tax. Take action to support that community.

Calling all NYC artists — painters, filmmakers, poets, musicians and more! Did you know our city provides grants to support your work every year? And this year, we're DOUBLING the amount — from $5,000 up to $10,000 per artist! Deadlines are approaching fast — apply today at nyc.gov/artistgrants.

Edinburgh Ahh great another block of Student accomodation. Hang on second though has there not been a drop in foreign students coming here? Isn't the major University in town cutting courses left , right and centre?

The most memorable, because it was the most frightening, moment of my journalistic life was being caught in the Garvaghy Road riot after Rosemary Nelson's murder. It was after the ban but when the stand-offs were still happening. Why would anyone let this back into NI? www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/ck...

Unemployment benefit in the UK is £95.55 per week for those aged 25 & over. It is 14% of average full-time earnings: the lowest in the developed world. Yet it is still too high for the Tories & right-wing vandals who would ideally live in a world where it did not exist.

What is wrong with the BBC's ridiculous idea of 'balance'. Every week I do admire and love Stephen Collins's strips. This is a golden oldie from a few years back.

This needs full public discussion.

The developer Apatura said a charter it had drawn up on 'green' data centres could help with policy and planning decisions on the controversial projects. After lobbying by the firm, the Scottish Government considered endorsing it.  Full story:

Interesting to see we're getting the City Guard back, last seen in 1817. Presumably they'll arrive without the Lochaber axes, and maybe with more people skills 🙂

Today's ruling by the Court of Appeal is deeply disappointing. This case remains about much more than one group. The banning of Palestine Action as a terrorist organisation is a grave misuse of counter-terrorism powers with serious consequences for human rights.

This is not the first extra sweetener the government has given the project. The money it is spending on this short stretch of road could instead be used to transform the entire national transport system for the better, as the figures here show: www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

theguardian.comOverblown infrastructure projects damage lives and imperil democracy. Why is Britain addicted to them? | George MonbiotThe Lower Thames Crossing proves the point. It’s a white elephant plan, sucking money from local projects that could actually improve lives, says Guardian columnist George Monbiot

Made my first website c. 1997 with Frontpage Express and Notepad after I discovered my parents' email came with free FTP sub-accounts they knew nothing about. Spent hours crafting "Tinky Winky's World of Tanks", where I rated armoured vehicles from the point of view of a Tellytubby. True Story.

I hope this isn’t true. There are times when it’s more important to put country before party. This is one of them. Burnham’s longstanding commitment to a fairer voting system could transform our democracy & counter the dire threat of a Reform UK government elected on a minority of the vote
