I liked the Carrie miniseries. I do agree with critiques that it humanizes its villains more than the Stephen-King-o-verse would tend to. Haven't even read Carrie but I know from other works that King is the GOAT at making smalltown petty sociopath bullies more scary than entire horror franchises

Similarly, I loved Misery and Desperation. Just a disturbed woman with an axe. Or, what if a corrupt cop was made even worse by demonic possession. But, still, the corrupt cop story works without the supernatural. And then I... did not like The Dark Tower books.

I guess maybe my point is that the supernatural stops being interesting when it stops actually being not-natural in its setting, so what's the point? Who would watch those ghost hunter shows if we all knew for sure ghosts were actually real?

I love that its conflict stays in the mundane world. I love the part of the superhero movie were Peter Parker is just learning his powers and using them to deliver pizzas and impress his highschool crush. And I get a little bored when the world ending stakes villain shows up.

So that this manages to tell a story that would be compelling entirely without any supernatural element, and only uses the supernatural to make that story even better, is so satisfying. But I can see we are gearing up for Psychic Wizard Duels in season 2, so, we'll see I guess.

I have been meaning to write about this for a month or so now but it breaks my heart. AI has infected every hobby. Everything is noise. It's hurting existing communities and trudging through the slop is exhausting.

Every single hobby I love has has been infected by slopped up and unserious software. It's exhausting. aftermath.site/ai-slop-hobbie...

new Call of Duty game actually caught my eye and I was actually kinda hooked on the characters doing like beat-cop soldier duty in downtown Seoul ragging on each other. Reminded me of Generation Kill? Then the inciting event and gameplay started and yeah looks the same as 20 years ago :\

I would definitely play a Generation Kill/Band of Brothers walking simulator story focused game where you only shoot your gun like, three times, and mostly it's about reckoning with how the war machine sausage gets made and how many smokes you have to trade for some dry socks

Going into gamedev communities seeing indies who release demos and losers are decomping their binaries with AI and stealing their games. And probably no one will do anything about it until a game like GTA6 has it happen.

Got through four rounds of interviews, two technical, designed Uber on a whiteboard, solved the algorithm puzzles, even had an ex boss who knows the hiring manager give me a recommendation, really thought I was gonna get this one.

my older brother got me out of bed at night when our parents went out so he could show me Mars Attacks. I think i was like 6. this did not hit like comedy to me as a 6 year old. i still think this movie is creepy af tbh

Ironically I will have less time for game development because I will need to work on software upskilling and marketable resume projects. Can't ever be done. Your degree and experience are never enough. Always have to grind some new stack for every interview. Man I wish I was a sw eng in the 80s

It's cool being hired to build something and then you build it but leadership didn't really think about how to sell it so your whole office gets laid off and they outsource everything to China

Imagine the Mamdami grocery store expands to other sectors. Oh, you're price fixing with other landlords instead of competing? How about the state starts offering rent at market value instead of your cartel's scam value? Never should have stopped trust busting.

How come none of the AI artists are trying to make something that was previously impossible without the use of AI and instead are trying pass it off as other mediums. Imagine if the camera was invented and dudes were like "No no I drew these civil war battlefields with a special pencil trust me bro"

I know this is not supposed to be your main takeaway from Saturday Night Fever, but man could you really afford to live in a Manhattan brownstone in the 70s just by taking a couple community college classes?

I have been enjoying this guy's content a lot. He makes rebalance mods for Halo games. Just a total game design sicko. Numbers Fuckstein for plasma pistol ammo count and projectile velocity and such, but lord you actually play his mod and he makes the game MORE FUN. www.youtube.com/@RubyofBlue/...

Secretly I'd always thought the first Halo game was the best one and the sequels weren't as fun. Which is an unpopular opinion because Halo 1 reuses so many levels and takes so many shortcuts for budget/time. But this youtuber validates all my opinions. The sandbox was just so much fun!

Not to be the "studios should let fans make the game!" guy But once in a while there is the superfan out there who has been obsessed with the minor details of how your game works for 20 years. And yeah maybe this person should be involved. I'd love if the official remasters had this guy's priorities

I watched Masters of the Universe cause many ppl were saying its an underappreciated sleeper hit like the Dungeons and Dragons movie. I don't agree. Like, the tone is vaguely similar. The script is just nonsense unfortunately. Zero stakes or tension.

If we found out LLMs didnt exist and ChatGPT was actually connected to little aliens who liked answering prompts, AI art would make me just as sad I think. So I think theft/electricity/jobs AI concerns are very second to art having human intentionality and effort.

No matter by what mechanism they worked by or how ethical or "conscious" they were ever able to make LLMs, I think LLMs will always be distasteful because of what comes out compared to what needs to be put in regardless of how they work under the hood.
