A specialist once said, "Sounds like you've got something complicated and I don't do complicated." Me: "Are you gonna charge me for this?" Bad doc: "You're taking up my time, aren't you?"

A question from Reddit that I'll answer here: "What's the most unhinged thing a doctor has said to you with a straight face?"

It's not much of a story but a doc told me I wasn't feeling pain when I was doubled over and absolutely was. It was just bizarre!

It’s worth noting that Jesus got angry at exactly one type of person: Jerks taking financial advantage of the poor under the cover of religion

The anti-data center movement is like "I don't want to pay more money for a thing that will not benefit me at all and will actively make my life measurably worse in a bunch of ways" and the pro-data center movement is like "We want it to be illegal for you to not like us."

I've been told I'm teaching a class that the past 5 teachers who were told to teach it quit the next year. This class is an elective! How is there a class so many want to take but no one wants to teach?!? (I don't even think I'm qualified!)

I asked Norman Rockwell's granddaughter, Daisy Rockwell, about this use of her grandfather's work. She writes: "It goes without saying that they have completely misunderstood the meaning of the painting, which is tolerance for others and peaceful coexistence."

Last night I asked my mentor if math was discovered or invented - an age old question that has been debated since the early Babylonians. He responded with, "What is history? Is that discovered or invented? You wouldn't even think to ask that question. History just exists. Math is no different."

I honestly thought this was bad AI.

you might also enjoy the McToast, a McDonald's offering only available in some Eastern European countries, which very much has the vibe of "your server is hungover and is this close to quitting their job"

Americans' sympathy for Palestinians is higher than Americans' sympathy for Israelis for the first time ever. Is that because of big spending by the Palestine lobby? Or is it possible that money isn't everything in politics, and millions of Americans form opinions based on reaction to events?

It still does good science. You hate to see it sit and collect dust.

Flagstaff’s Lowell Observatory plans to cut nearly all its research funding and reduce the number of paid science staff to just two positions next year.

It was the 80s. Honestly, who *didn't* have a bit of a sitch with some plutonium? We had radioactive watches fer Pete's sake! These things happen.

I would just like to say how much I appreciate all of Doc Brown’s backstory + the plutonium heist was handled under the opening credits. Nowadays, it would be the entire first movie.

There is indeed a Tardis (of #DoctorWho fame) seen in every shot of the entangled USS Enterprise inside the Scavenger ship in #StarTrekSNW's "The Selat WHO Ate Its Tail". Wibbly wobbly, timey wimey, indeed! :-)

Absolutely not. Please undiscover this promptly and then go sit in a corner and think about what you did.

I may sound elitist, but I just can't trust intelligence about remote sensing if you don't have a basic understanding of how remote sensing works.

The Briefing with Jen Psaki@briefingwithpsaki.bsky.social

. @schiff.senate.gov laments the fact that no one in the Trump administration can be counted on to tell the truth, and hopes that intelligence professionals also attend the Senate Intelligence briefing on Iran to provide trustworthy information.

If I go to a science conference, I don't want someone who isn't the scientist to tell me about the research. If I go to an education con, I don't want someone who hasn't been teaching to tell me how to teach. So why do we accept any politician relaying intelligence?
