Happy Intersex Awareness Day! Here’s some pride art featuring Stevonnie, an intersex non-binary character from Steven Universe. I’ve also included some facts for other perisex (non-intersex) queer folks to know! 💛💜

Happy #IntersexAwarenessDay! Intersex is a broad term that encompasses variations in sex characteristics or reproductive anatomy. These variations can manifest in several ways including differences in genitalia, hormones, internal anatomy, or chromosomes.

When Betsy Driver’s mother took her to medical appointments as a child, she asked whether other children were like her daughter. According to Driver, doctors told her no. Years later, Driver found people with the same intersex variation who had been treated at the same hospital. "We were lied to."

"Policies that aim to define or restrict a person’s sex or gender are not rooted in scientific reality; they’re based on political ideology."

On Intersex Awareness Day, Zach Eisenstein explains why political attempts to define sex as strictly male or female ignore scientific reality.

On October 26, 1996, a brave group of intersex people, backed by transgender allies, demonstrated for the first time against the harms, including nonconsensual surgeries, they’d experienced from doctors. This was declared the first #IntersexAwarenessDay.

Today is Intersex Awareness Day. I am intersex – and did not find out until I was 26! Intersex people are also impacted by the decision in FWS, but this is much less talked about. Intersex people continue to be subjected to non-consensual medical interventions. Intersex rights are human rights.

On this Intersex Awareness Day, listen to Spike’s story & learn more about intersex individuals & the challenges they face. Intersex & transgender aren’t interchangeable terms. Some intersex individuals identify as transgender, but there are just as many intersex people who identify as cisgender.

Thirty years ago, intersex advocates refused to stay silent. October 26th marks #IntersexAwarenessDay and their fight for bodily autonomy. Nearly 2% of people are born with bodies that don't fit stereotypes of male or female bodies. We aren't disordered—and we deserve control over our bodies.

Salem, Massachusetts, will celebrate Intersex Awareness Day with its first-ever flag raising and march. "Visibility matters, and education is an important part of building a community where everyone is able to live openly and authentically," (Mayor) Pangallo said. patch.com/massachusett...

This is a MAJOR WIN for intersex & trans people in California! The law prohibits health plans & insurers from discriminating against individuals based on sex, including intersex traits. It ensures they cannot be denied coverage for medically necessary healthcare, including gender-affirming care 💜

When we say “we want to hear from LGBTQIA2S+ students,” we mean all LGBTQIA2S+ students. That means intersex students, too. If this describes you—or someone you know—please take Glisten's National School Climate Survey or share it today: glisten.org/nscs27

When intersex young people first look for others—it’s often out of necessity. They want to feel less alone or find support through struggle. At our healing retreat, being intersex isn’t just about the hard times. It's a reminder that being intersex can make your life richer than you’d ever imagine.

This policy has the greatest potential to impact intersex cisgender women—especially because many of them don’t know they are intersex. There are no known trans women playing on the WTA Tour. But there are plenty of cis women who will now have to go through medical tests to prove their eligibility

As far as I can find, the Women's Tennis Association is the only major women’s sports league to require genetic sex testing. Who does this actually impact? Well, cis women who happen to be intersex. Read more here:

The discriminatory sports bans the Court has let stand today are hateful and disheartening, but the ruling does not strip away the broader rights and freedom of trans and intersex people.

We will continue to defend inclusion and equality for our communities at work, in schools, and under democracy. No matter what, interACT and our allies won't stop cheering for trans and intersex youth, both on and off the playing field. interactadvocates.org/interact-sup...

interactadvocates.orginterACT responds to Supreme Court: We won't stop cheering for trans and intersex youthToday's ruling is heartbreaking for the trans and intersex girls who want to play, learn, and thrive alongside their peers.

The ruling gives the Supreme Court's stamp of approval to policies that intentionally discriminate against women and girls who do not conform to sex stereotypes. That should alarm anyone who claims to care about women's rights.

What would you say to someone who hasn't yet found their intersex pride? 👀 For us, pride is finding joy in existing outside of the binary. Nearly 2% of people are born with intersex traits - we're not rare, just made invisible. interACT was so honored to march and table at Capital Pride in DC! 💜💛

As the Trump administration tries to twist Title IX against LGBTQI+ youth in schools, civil rights protections are critical. Congressmembers introduced a resolution to mark the anniversary of Title IX, calling for its protections to be honored, especially for trans, intersex & nonbinary students.

Like any other worker, an intersex employee’s talents and contributions should be what counts—not others’ biased beliefs about who ‘counts’ as male or female. These forms of sex discrimination will have consequences.
