Here is a short list of tech I have been vocally skeptical of since it first rose to prominence, despite countless people assuring me it was the inevitable future: Cryptocurrency Blockchain The Metaverse Augmented Reality Tesla Autopilot/Full Self-Driving Smart Contracts DAOs NFTs Generative AI

The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus came on the Criterion 24/7 stream. I forgot what a slog this is. It’s great up through Taj Mahal with Jesse Ed Davis(!) and then slowly runs out of steam.

Calexico - Scout Ben Goldberg - A Rhythmia (Nels Cline!) James Taylor Quarter - Blow Up (no, not that James Taylor) Rank Strangers - Red Square

Jeff Parker and ETA IVtet (with Jay Bellerose, Anna Butterss, and Josh Johnson) do a run of 'Happy Today' album release shows in August in California; including a three-night stand at Los Angeles's Lodge Room, where the album was recorded almost exactly one year prior.

For @racketmn.com, I wrote about The Gathering for Good, the huge fundraiser Mancini's Char House & Lounge--yes, that one--held two weeks ago for ICE victims in St. Paul's West 7th neighborhood. One of my best, huge thanks to everyone involved. racketmn.com/yes-that-man...

democrats should internalize that this is what their colleagues think of them and act accordingly

Philip Bump@pbump.com

After pointing at Democrats and saying they are "crazy," Trump says, "We’re lucky we have a country, with people like this. Democrats are destroying our country, but we stopped it, just in the nick of time." Just insanely destructive. Indefensible — but Republicans stood and clapped.

Can comfirm from MN, as can anyone who lives here, that not a THING has changed except little Bovino isnt peacocking around the streets anymore. And there hasn’t been a third high-profile murder of a white person yet. But the gestapo attacks haven’t stopped. At all! bsky.app/profile/jyse...

Jared Yates Sexton@jysexton.bsky.social

ICE hasn't stopped brutalizing people or shredding the Constitution, it's just that corporate media turned the camera as the call for action got too loud and the Democrats stepped in and made sure the issue got changed. If you sit for a second, you'll recognize that's what happened with BLM, too.

DHS lied about the people they shot? Gosh.

Sam Levin@samtlevin.bsky.social

After Border Patrol shot two people in Portland, DHS claimed they were "vicious gang members" tied to a past shooting. But records I obtained reveal a US prosecutor has since directly contradicted DHS, saying, "We're not suggesting he is a gang member." My dive into how DHS' claims have collapsed:
