FYI, here's the plan for the "surprise" papal visit next weekend--assuming the White Sox win tonight. He throws out the first pitch in Chicago Friday at ALDS game four. He insists on visiting a No Kings rally Saturday. He preaches Sunday at St. Raphael's in Springfield, OH.

This will never stop blowing my mind. A 12-year sequence of real telescope images of a star 133 lightyears away. And around it, four planets slowly orbiting. Four real exoplanets, each more massive than Jupiter, imaged as they move around their host star.

Walter Cronkite: After liberating execution camps… Germans (who cried) they didn’t know…were as as guilty as Nazis…because they applauded when Hitler shut down (media) and said, ‘We don’t need to know. We trust our government...’ It’s our duty to know.

The military is being buffeted by huge materiel losses and is actually hiding war casualties but Hegseth is obsessed with fitness and his men's penises.

Tonight in New York, drones recreated the Twin Towers at full scale over the skyline. There were exactly 2,977 of them – one for each person killed 25 years ago on September 11.

Make hay while the sun shines…and if you’re in a hurry, hire a helicopter. It costs a Swiss farmer about $3000 an hour to haul hay. Watching this, I was struck by how fast they worked…but at $50 a minute, it made sense. What surprised me was that hay would be worth it. Enjoy your cheese.

On August 23, 1989, about 2 million people from Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania formed a 600 km long human chain that united all 3 countries to show the world their desire to leave the Soviet Union and Communism.

The Leaning Tower of Pisa is no longer at risk of falling down thanks to a herculean and high-tech effort. A highlight for many is to climb the tower — here’s what it’s like.   What bell towers and church towers—without elevators—have you felt are well worth the climb?

This eclipse only occurs every (approximately) fourteen and a half years, or half the orbital period of Saturn. When those eclipses can happen they only actually take place every 16 days or so, which translates to about 20 such events every 14–15 years. Reddit link: www.reddit.com/r/spaceporn/...

Reid Wiseman just dropped this photo on his Instagram page. It's our homeworld, looking at the nightside, taken from inside the Artemis II Orion spacecraft through one of the windows. There's something so casual about it, about the reflections in the window, but outside IS A WHOLE PLANET HOLY SHIT

Imagine Trump ever being invited to join a photo like this — not in a million years. Four presidents. Zero drama. Just smiles, respect, and a shared love of country. 🇺🇸

Some notables: The remaining lightning tower shows extraordinary blast damage to its lower portion. I would think it unlikely that it would be easier to repair it than simply tear it down and build a new one.

A photo by Asher B. (Launch Heaven Media) of pad LC-36A following last night's explosion of Blue Origin's New Glenn rocket. The water town and one lightning tower appear intact. The second lighting tower, mobile erector, and of course the rocket itself are destroyed, and the pad heavily damaged.

This is a 24-second crop of @nasaspaceflight.com's live view of Launch Complex 36 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station at around 9:00 pm Eastern. During a static fire test, the entire New Glenn 4 rocket exploded and was destroyed—seemingly taking much of the pad with it.
