If I start doing "business leadership lessons from classic Broadway musicals" as a bit on LinkedIn, how long before I get a book deal?

My pal Danielle Koenig shared that her father Walter Koenig passed away last night at age 90. A performer whose kindness and warmth shone through the screen. He will be well remembered.

It's fun to imagine that if The Beatles hadn't broken up when they did that Paul might have kept writing additional songs detailing the further adventures of Maxwell as the greatest trolling bit ever in the history of rock and roll. But alas, it was not to be.

More than any of the other reasons I object to the use of AI, it's that I don't want to see my friends and family turn into this.

cool, cool

"But I would never do that, I just use it to—" I'll stop you there. That's where everyone who ended up like this started.

If you have a song in your head, so you put on the album it's from, and then realize halfway through the first song you grabbed the wrong album, do you continue listening or switch to the originally intended album?

Does your answer change if the two albums in question are both cast recordings of different Kander & Ebb flops?

I went to the definition to try to figure out why, even when it's just one thumb, we say "thumbs," but there was no information there. I wonder if it was originally "thumb's up."

I didn't really know anything about Beck beyond "Loser" and a vague sense of him as a slacker icon from my youth, but I dove into The Last Temptation of Beck because I've loved @josie.zone's previous books. What a rewarding experience! This book is an excellent biography but also so much more.

And while it's also about Scientology, it's not really about that either. It's about the choices we make and the choices that get made for us and how we survive and what gets lost in the collateral damage and what might have a chance of repair.

Here’s some obscure trivia for Cast Recordings fans: YOU CAN SEE EVERYTHING includes a shot of the office building where Fynsworth Alley was located.

The two horror movies both became instant favorites. Neptune’s Daughter marks the completion of watching two Esther Williams boxed sets. It’s Dorothy was disappointing in that it lacked depth and focus but fun to watch for good visuals and vibes.

Today I'm testing the limits of my theory that I too quickly dismissed perfectly enjoyable music as a kid because I was a snob by listening to José Carreras Sings Hits of Andrew Lloyd Webber.

When will Hollywood give us the big screen, high budget, live action movie musical origin story of Lady Elaine Fairchilde that we deserve?

If AI were even a fraction as smart as the people marketing it would have us believe, then when I finished reading MUSCLE, instead of recommending me other books about bodybuilding, the algo would have recommended me other books that were turned into obscure musicals.

I get weirdly defensive when a movie I watched has a different name in Letterboxd than the one on the dvd cover.

There should be an app where you can upload a photo of the inside of your dishwasher and it tells you where exactly bowls are supposed to go.

Just had an anchovy pizza for the first time. I liked it well enough, but it really feels like people who swear by it are doing a bit.

I don’t use drugs but tbh these four films would probably make a great film festival for people stoned out of their gourds.

If I listened to Phantom of the Opera a lot when I was 12 and not a lot since then, will the new remixed album sound any different to me?

"Christine Daaé can sing it for you, sir." "The chorrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrus girl?" Up there in the top 10 ten dialogue exchanges included in cast albums.

I don't know what's a function of the remix vs just listening carefully with lossless audio and high-quality earphones, but I am definitely noticing some nice touches that never jumped out at me before. (e.g. the "Notes" orchestration sounds like it came directly from the desk of Jonathan Tunick.)

If I listened to Phantom of the Opera a lot when I was 12 and not a lot since then, will the new remixed album sound any different to me?

As soon as I hit send on this, a whole-ass track I've never heard started playing, so I guess that answers that. (It's "Hannibal Rehearsal," which comes between the Overture and "Think of Me" on the new album. Some of this music was on the original, but not all of it I think?)

It's a good thing I don't bet on prediction markets.

Nancy 10/8/26 “Sluggo’s Terrible New Hat” Part 10… the epic conclusion

Vulture's Stage Whisperer newsletter had a preview of Rebecca Alter's interview with Brian Stokes Mitchell and tl;dr we not only getting the Shuffle Along broadcast on Great Performances – there will also be a cast album.

Is Kalshi taking bets on whether and when Sluggo will say "m'lady" from beneath his terrible hat?
