gimp is kinda jank yeah but when people have Serious Takes about how it needs to improve all i can read is "here is how these four guys working intermittently for free have FAILED to live up to the international company making twenty billion dollars a year"

Chris Person@papapishu.bsky.social

GIMP is objectively unintuitive and also can’t parse text layers of PSDs properly, it’s designed by FOSS people that have never created tools for professionals. Telling someone to use it for their job is like saying you can make a feature on iMovie. Technically true but not serious.

It's a new #Continuwuity chat release! We've got a lot of cool new stuff this past month. Email verification! Terms and Conditions! Deleting notification pushers! So exciting - but also super important for running communities on your terms. forgejo.ellis.link/continuwuati...

Ultimately you have to embrace the jank for a while so you don't get stuck in a local maxima that is ever drawing you in to crush you

It's annoying how good discord is. Matrix is a nice idea, but janky in practice.

Cloudflare just published a vibe coded blog post claiming they implemented Matrix on cloudflare workers. They didn't, their post and README is AI generated and the code doesn't do any of the core parts of matrix that make it secure and interoperable.

Oh and to top things off, they make trivially false claims in their post. Tuwunel and its predecessors do not and have never used Postgres or Redis.

Rather than implementing the critical state resolution algorithm that's the core of Matrix, they just directly insert the latest state into the database. That'll instantly lead to diverging views of the room and incompatibility with every other implementation - and it's also a massive security hole.

We're announcing Partnered Homeserver for Continuwuity, which allows interested administrators of public homeservers meeting a few basic requirements to get themselves official recognition from the project, including a place in our README and a few other things.

Security alert for users of the #matrix homeservers #conduit, #conduwuit, #grapevine, #tuwunel, and #continuwuity: A zero day vulnerability was found and exploited and affects all conduit and conduit-based homeserver deployments. Please read more here: github.com/continuwuity... Please update ASAP

github.comUnintended Proxy or Intermediary ('Confused Deputy') and Improper Input Validation in Conduit-derived homeservers### Impact This vulnerability allows a remote, unauthenticated attacker to force the target server to cryptographically sign arbitrary membership events. The flaw exists because the server fails...

What's a cool little program that you made ages ago but are still using/updating? One of mine is github.com/JadedBlueEye... - it's a desktop GUI for a unit-aware calculator so I can do all sorts of conversions on my desktop (including currency conversions)

A lot of folks know me for one or two posts, and might not know I've created nine (9!) visual explanations of computer science topics, aimed at practitioners. If you're looking for things to read this Thanksgiving, I think you'll love them. Computer science is a lot of fun, when explained well. ❤️

It's on apt. It's literally on Cargo. It's on DockerHub with ads. It's literally on nuget. You can probably find it on snap. Dude it's on portage. It's a Homebrew original. It's on pacman. You can download it on nixpkgs. You can go to pkgsrc and watch it. Log onto the Windows Store right now.

This post is worth reading regarding git. It does raise questions about the resilience of that history if it's only in GitHub pull requests, though.

This post is unavailable.

Continuwuity is going vroom! Lots of cool features going on, and I'm looking forward to the stuff that's already in the next release

Being a Greta Thunberg doesn't need to mean getting up on TV either, doing advocacy is important, running that project you genuinely believe the world is better off with is important. Do shit. Even when it looks impossible.

we need a lot more greta thunbergs and a lot fewer people who assess that things are getting worse and shut down
