That scene in You Can See Everything where [redacted] straight up asks Billy how he knows he’s good at sex and it’s one of two times in the movie where he tries to stop the filming

It was a running joke all the way back in Trump 1.0 that the conservative project was to die for Cheesecake Factory and now it’s just a literal statement of their principles

I’m not a political journalist, so was gladly surprised at the community I found here last night. To Americans anxious about the upcoming elections, a key thing we learned in Brazil that might help you: DO NOT engage with the far-right online. Don’t share rage bait. Amplify your people. Ignore them.

Between YCSE, Wildwood, Possible Love, and The Devils resto I have had an unreal last two weeks at the cinema. And hell, Whalefall and Clayface were goopy ass fun.

I’m about a third of the way through King Sorrow, my first Joe Hill, and I’m sorry to compare him to his dad but in this case it’s to say that if this was a King book it would be well on its way to being a top 5-er for me

The more I think about it the more I think this has one of the most baffling endings I’ve ever seen, of Mikey Madison’s whistleblower doing a literal “Don’t You Forget About Me” fist pump before the text epilogue mentions FB continues to operate unabated and with malign influence

I’ve become very fond of the slow winnowing down of the AMC Nicole Kidman pot. By next summer it will just be Pazuzu-esque shock inserts

The thing about Vivek’s absolutely sickening ad with Acton’s mom is that it’s perfectly targeted for the GOP base which is people who are either child abusers or shield them from consequence. It’s the first step in a party-wide 2028 platform of “you aren’t allowed to cut us out of your lives”

Here comes King Rapist to put his stamp of approval on the closing message of the GOP’s midterm strategy bsky.app/profile/atru...

Trump: "Ramaswamy put up a very powerful Ad about a mother saying that her daughter, Acton, is a liar, and much worse. The Press is trying to get him to 'take down the Ad.' Frankly, anybody whose mother spoke about daughter that way would normally lead to the daughter being precluded from serving"

Well there you have it folks. Bad seeds and cool daddies will be let loose once again. Get your egg creams to go and get home now.

Happy Wonder Woman day with me remembering that the legend Gilbert Hernández drew Wonder Woman once, look at those arms

Very pleasantly surprised by this, not only for its decently gnarly effects but a perspective on Gotham that hasn’t really come through in other live action adaptations.

Slant@slantmagazine.com

In CLAYFACE, Gotham takes on the atmosphere of active malevolence it so often exudes in the comics. Read @jakecole.bsky.social's review.

I’ve been released from IDF custody with a “warning,” apparently because of my public profile (I told them I wasn’t even a congressmember yet, just a nominee). But several dozen rabbis & participants harvesting olives with me are still in detention.

Nikki is not the villain in the movie, but she is the monster. They found a great way to launder the fact that the scares come exclusively from the concept of "Extreme BPD girlfriend" by firmly establishing that it is Bear's fault.

Thank you to @sepinwall.bsky.social for actually writing this and talking to me for it, and to @garyjackson.bsky.social for the most concise summation of Sorkin’s ethos I’ve ever seen: “I want to be rude to a blonde woman.”

Consider this an alert to outlets that cover entertainment: The 20th anniversary of “Studio 60” is coming up in September and every comedy writer on earth will talk to you about their continued horrified fascination with it.

Every article has the same premise: Young people are characterizing their normal, happy childhoods as abusive and going "no contact" with their parents over minor disagreements. Every article also, late in the text, blithely acknowledges that this premise is false. www.nytimes.com/2024/07/14/h...

There are so many reactions saying Fielder fell in love with Elizabeth and I can understand at a glance how you could see that but this I think gets at what is so mesmerizing about his behavior in it which is he is in real time always realizing these ppl go so much deeper than he fathomed

This post is unavailable.

I don’t think you can be confident about any reading of any person in YCSE but those agonizingly close ups on Fielder’s face throughout seem like a man who has made bank pushing a persona to its limits seeing he’s finally met his match, and with ppl who are choosing to present as *this*

It’s increasingly fun to cast my mind back to high school when Amanda Seyfried was the dead girl in Veronica Mars whose flashbacks always had an edge or as the funny scene stealer in Mean Girls and then way off to the side over the next 20 years she became one of the best actors of her age range.
