This is also why I think the studies that find a null effect from social media on attitudes are deceptive: it’s not the median voter that’s being driven nuts on Twitter, it’s journalists, people that work in legislative offices, and elected officials themselves.

For the rubric “it ain’t much but it’s honest work”, I just got my first R&R (w/ Major Revisions) on a solo author paper. It’s just the beginning, but these little wins definitely contribute in fostering my love for the path I’m pursuing & academia!

My coauthored article with Hollie Nyseth Nzitatira and Trey Billing, titled "The Effect of Radio Propaganda on Mobilization during the Rwandan Genocide," has been officially published in the American Sociological Review. #conflictsky You can find it here: journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/...

Article has an issue number! In the paper, I find that relational ties between states lower the rate of interstate conflict while simultaneously spreading political institutions. #conflictsky

My article on cooperative communities and interstate conflict is available online at JoP. I find that network ties between states simultaneously spread political institutions and induce within group cooperation. www.journals.uchicago.edu/doi/10.1086/...

Excited this is done. It took a few years to clean the data!

Just accepted at JOP w/ Daniel Naftel @kshoub.bsky.social, @jarededgerton.bsky.social, Mallory Wagner, and Skyler Cranmer. We find that patterns of gender inequality observed in formal deliberative settings extend to informal televised political discussions. www.journals.uchicago.edu/doi/10.1086/...

In a forthcoming article at American Sociological Review, we reexamine the effect of radio propaganda on participation in the Rwandan Genocide. With new data, we find that access to the radio led to an earlier onset of but not higher rate of violence. w/ Trey Billing & Hollie Nyseth Nzitatira

Jared Edgerton@jarededgerton.bsky.social

Excited that my last dissy article is conditionally accepted at JOP. I show that networked interactions spread institutions between and induce group among states. Together, the processes create cooperative regimes, composed of state with similar institutions that are less internally conflictual.
