Before everyone gets too excited by AI becoming self-aware let's just bear in mind that my Google spellcheck still has no idea which word I am trying to type here

The trade unions resisting a political donations cap in the UK are ragged-trousered philanthropists. Thanks to their delusion that a system allowing limitless donations enhances their power, they're in danger of handing the country to the far-right parties that billionaires support. Burnham must act

Especially as, if you can afford the phone, I'm highly sceptical you can't stretch to a £10 or £15 pair of headphones. No one's suggesting it has to be a pair of Bose Spatial Audio headphones or whatever the hell

Yiannis@yiannisbab.bsky.social

I love the “not everyone can afford headphones” line. As if it’s obligatory to play shitty TikTok’s on public transport and you can’t possibly be expected to go 10 minutes without assaulting your eyeballs with mindless crap

Sturgeon's greatest gift was her ability to make Scottish nationalism seem reasonable when it uses the same basic tactics as pro-Brexit thinking - it's always cos the distant Brussels or London elites are close-minded/bureaucratic/out to screw us.

Astonishing cope here. PISA doesn't measure rote learning, it is not based on the English curriculum. It relies heavily on comprehension and applying knowledge to a new context.

It's why one of my favourite Burnham stories is the time he apparently called Sturgeon out in the pandemic for the same centralised, arrogant style of government she criticises in Westminster.

Really feels like Iran and its proxies blocking our major shipping routes wasn't a coherent strategy until Trump put the idea in their heads. Fucking idiot.

Jesus if someone you knew had been *legitimately* scammed, wouldn't you stop feeling sympathy for them if they gave you this response.

"I have will happily accept breezy reassurances about legality with no follow-up questions or even thought. Please make me prime minister."

So we’re all going to spend the next four weeks tearing apart everything James Orr has ever published and looking into Cambridge’s hiring policies. Right guys? Guys?

@stephenkb.bsky.social excellent on The News Agents tonight. And got me thinking that we are too eager to divorce vetting scandals from specific institutional context. If Arday had been appointed ambassador to a G7 country we’d be more outraged about the people who vetted him.

To @iandunt.bsky.social’s point, ChatGPT has started saying ”that makes me smile” in responses and I’ve begged it to stop as it’s fucking terrifying.

Ian Dunt@iandunt.bsky.social

I don't accept the stupider point at all but I think the lonelier argument in this piece is much more profound. I wish development pointed away from the anthropomising element of LLMs and had them answering in much colder manner, to emphasise that it's a machine.

Agreed. Just seems (for now) indicative of a man who is listening.

Liam Thorp@liamthorp.bsky.social

I really think some of my colleagues in the Parliamentary lobby need a bit of a break. The reporting at the moment is so frantic and a bit hysterical. Today Burnham is being accused of a major U-turn because he said he would look at something and then said he won't move ahead with it currently.

Not sure which bits of House of the Dragon S3 are more @stephenkb.bsky.social adjacent - the fact HBO made me wait so long that I’ve forgotten who half the cast are, or that Rhaenyra is making Keir Starmeresque blunders, governing erratically and needlessly pissing off her core supporters.

Are we sure this isn't Le Chiffre?

Phil Brickell MP@philbrickellmp.bsky.social

He lives in Tivat, Montenegro where he is known to have flaunted his wealth, including high stakes betting in local casinos, pushing crypto ventures, inserting himself into local politics and setting up a political strategy company (Geostrategy International).

This is probably true but as my dad, a useful bellwether of the moderate voter, said to me this weekend - "Yeah but no one likes him."

Ian Dunt@iandunt.bsky.social

Ignore all the hysterical tabloid bullshit. Ed Miliband is a good choice for chancellor inews.co.uk/opinion/ever...

Seriously, Miliband as Chancellor is classic BlueSky bubble. As Channel 4 News highlighted in May, even Reform curious voters in his own *constituency* don't like him

Replying to @aphclarkson.bsky.social

The problem is: like Starmer, he has a strategy of winning. He does not have a strategy for governing (cf his now rowed-back Waspi women comment; his evasiveness about fiscal rules etc.). My prediction: Burnham will resemble Johnson in government.

Not that dissimilar to the argument Dawkins made himself about religion, hence the irony in the Claude Delusion. Something mysterious happens which my science or education can't explain, therefore must be a powerful deity.

Both Thompson and Ezra Klein are symptomatic of this really tedious “I’m just asking questions” liberalism that entertains any old bollocks.

The plans to make Andy Burnham PM have an increasingly "here's how we get a government of national unity to stop Brexit without Jeremy Corbyn being made Prime Minister" feel to them
