New NYT and Strength In Numbers polls this morning showing roughly same thing regarding national environment, around D+11-12 lead for Dems in the generic ballot depending on population. Double digit margin now a 50-50 chance in my modeling of all polls www.gelliottmorris.com/p/2026-10-21...

"Again and again, Collins comes back to the same twisted argument: Only she can limit the damage her party is doing." "The question is whether Mainers will settle for that grim bargain, or whether they’ll give her seat to a party that will take on Trump for real." www.thebulwark.com/p/the-case-a...

No he can’t do that. Congress must defend itself. WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump on Friday signed an executive order that puts on hold a sweeping new sanctions package targeting the Russian economy, telling Congress the pause was in the national interest. apnews.com/article/russ...

#Aviation contributes roughly as much to #climatechange as plastics production, shipping, or the nation of Brazil. There's work ongoing to make flight greener, but your packages will probably fly carbon-free before you do -- my latest article for Distillations Magazine explains why. 🌎🧪

Science History Institute@sciencehistory.org

The question of how to best power planes is as old as aviation itself, and a surprising number of schemes have been tried over the past century. But as the Earth warms and oil prices soar, calls for a more sustainable approach to aviation have grown. Is such a thing even possible?

“If this summer’s celebrations marking the 250th anniversary of the nation’s founding failed to inspire widespread patriotism, the increasingly bipartisan revolution against [cameras that track license plates] suggests Americans have not entirely lost their rebellious spirit.”

OPINION: "As a historian of the American Revolution, I see parallels between Americans’ revolt against ALPRs and colonists’ destructive and often violent pushback to late 18th-century British rule," G. Patrick O'Brien writes. buff.ly/8VXjY9I

“Networks Suspend Pool Coverage of Trump After CNN Is Barred.” This is important. Trump has gotten away with abuses of power by dividing the groups (see: lawyers, universities) whose rights he assaulted. In this case, networks are standing in solidarity. www.nytimes.com/live/2026/09...

I absolutely encourage the GOP to go with this message for the next 6 weeks. 10/10, no notes.

Everyone should understand how climate change is affecting conditions where they live, esp in places like Florida that are seeing huge storm surges, rising seas and widespread sunny-day flooding. Dropping it from textbooks won't make it go away. www.npr.org/2026/09/15/n...

Since becoming president again, Trump has promised: -$5000 stimulus checks via "DOGE dividend" -$2000 stimulus checks via "tariff dividend" -$1000+ checks via "savings" from expiring ACA subsidies -$5000 "dividend" if Rs win midterms No checks have been issued www.thebulwark.com/p/trump-magi...

Silicon Valley’s leaders have spent the past 20 years "bombarding us with inappropriate and culturally corrosive content, turning a blind eye to social dysfunction and outright addiction, [and] flooding schools with technology that hooked young users but did little for education."

"Silicon Valley may have enjoyed the days of Mark Zuckerberg’s infamous directive to 'move fast and break things,' but it turns out that we were the things being broken. We will not put up with that again."

If you're a fearful flyer, or know one, here's a good breakdown of the relative risk of air travel. Authors estimate that "an hour in a passenger car or truck carried about 74 times the fatality risk of an hour aboard a commercial aircraft." Drive carefully! theconversation.com/compared-to-...

theconversation.comCompared to driving, flying is extraordinarily safe – but why doesn’t it feel that way? When it comes to transportation, there’s a hidden danger in choosing what feels safer.

Today in "this administration totally supports The Troops", service members are getting notified that their children will no longer be provided with transportation from day care to elementary school. When your work day starts at 6:15 AM, that's a problem.
