If you have an iPhone w/ the current OS, go into Settings, scroll to the bottom to click on Apps, scroll down to M & go into the Messages app, and flick this switch “screen unknown senders”. This dumps 99% political text messages into a folder you can separately check.
Strawberries are also better now than they used to be, thanks to research and development of bigger, sweeter, hardier fruits at public universities like @ucdavis. www.ucdavis.edu/food/news/uc...
Apples are just astonishingly better than when I was a kid and what you'd get at the grocery store were either mushy red delicious or lemon-sour granny smiths.
One of the people arrested of suspected voter fraud in San Diego was a 56-year-old Vietnamese woman in National City who thought she was a citizen. inewsource.org/2026/10/19/c...
I'm choosing to believe he was doing a bit because no one who has ever attended a local government meeting could possibly believe that. And I assume DSA leaders have attended local government meetings.
At a friend's party last weekend I got into housing with a guy in DSA SD chapter leadership and he was trying to tell me that he doesn't believe there are true NIMBYs, like they're a boogeyman YIMBros have inflated to push developer interests. Oh, they're real and not ashamed to just say it flat out

I wrote about San Diego and how there's nowhere to run from climate change.

🧵Since reporter @kellylynndavis.bsky.social passed away this summer, San Diego SPJ and those who love Kelly have been working with the Rancho Santa Fe Foundation on a memorial fund to recognize the impact she had and fuel more important work like hers.
Padilla and Schiff both voted yes 👍
The following 47 Senators voted YES on a resolution that would require the State Department to investigate and report on Israel’s rampant human rights abuses against Palestinians in the illegally-occupied West Bank, as well as Israel’s killing of 9 US citizens since 2022:
The Robinson Street connection between North Park and Hillcrest is very much needed.
SANDAG recently forfeited $17.6 million in competitive state grant funding for 4 bike and pedestrian projects across San Diego County. It says the projects are still a priority. Buuuut it also didn’t apply for any active transportation grants this year, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ www.kpbs.org/news/environ...
We need to stop calling them Israeli settlers. They are Israeli terrorists. They commit violence for a political purpose.
This is straight-up evil. Yom Kippur is on Monday — the moral contradiction is impossible to ignore. 📌 REUTERS: Israeli settlers set fire to olive groves in the town of Burqa in the Israeli-occupied West Bank, according to local Palestinian residents. Burned trees that are “thousands of years” old.
Update: San Diego United Communities deleted my comment on their Facebook post in which I asked what makes them think the Avengers are villains. I guess they're embarrassed? @jakobmcwhinney.bsky.social
What is this about @jakobmcwhinney.bsky.social? Did you really call them the Avengers? And why does this group think the Avengers are the villains?

California bans landlords from rejecting housing vouchers, but the law only works if someone checks. A nonprofit's undercover calls caught Greystar, the nation's biggest landlord, allegedly turning voucher holders away in Oceanside. thecoastnews.com/landlord-gre...

An amazing quote from Lindsey Graham in this Atlantic story. It really captures an essential truth about politics that too few people ever really come to terms with. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/0...
Yet another reason why I don't expect the county sales tax to pass in November. Most voters don't know or care that the city and county are different entities.
Important update from Mariana Martínez Barba: Voters intended for Measure C dollars to be added on top of the city of San Diego's existing homelessness budget. Instead, it’s being used to make up the city’s deficit.

here is what i think: we're not consumers or spectators, we are participants with agency. you should not hope that democrats will do anything. you must work to force them to do the right thing. the odds are long, but we are far from the first americans to face long odds. we will win.
you know, when someone says something like "these are the things that need to be done to avert disaster" and your response is "you think democrats will do that?!?" all you're telling me is that you think politics is a spectator sport

I cannot imagine what would possess someone to go to court and put on the record that they got mad and tried to fire a reporter because the live shot - which it’s alleged the reporter staged- had a “fuck ice” sign in the background. current.org/2026/06/form...

It's disturbing, and the fact that many elected officials and local government agencies still use it as the main place to post their official updates is indefensible at this point.
Lurked on X this week to do some reporting. It's stunning how ugly it is there. Saw a Blaze reporter call a Landers' staffer a "fa***t." A Daily Wire reporter wants to abolish mosques. Nearly every reply thread to posts by black or Jewish people quickly descended into raw racism or antiSemitism.
