NEW | Have I Got Barely Any Views For You… THE AMOL RAJAN DISCONNECTION The former BBC big name’s big mistake is thinking that being well-known equates to be being well-liked. brokenbottleboy.substack.com/p/the-amol-r...

Burnham - the kid in "The Emperor's New Clothes" pointing out the King is naked while the sycophants say how amazing his outfit is. And he's saying what we have been for years - 10 years on, a PM is finally pointing out that hard Brexit was never even suggested during the referendum campaign.

🤩 This is a significant moment. Burnham says openly that Brexit has weakened 🇬🇧 economy, failed to deliver promised control over immigration and produced a harder Brexit than many people were led to expect in 2016. On rejoin EU: “I would like to see that happen in my lifetime.” And next 👇 🧵

England is a net importer of electricity from both Cymru and Scotland. England, generally, also has lower electricity bills than Scotland and Cymru. You couldn't make this shit up...

FWIW, t's legit on his Facebook page, but is not his actual Facebook setting. He's mocked it up and then posted it as an image. So the conversation (including HMRC's reply) and the likes and the comment numbers are all fake. Which makes it a bit weird.

Burnham made a big splash about four decades of failed neoliberalism being the root of our ills, yet here was a chancellor speaking straight from the neoliberal playbook. The need to stick to our fiscal rules, getting the debt down, the need for growth to unlock investment, blah, blah, blah.

George Monbiot@georgemonbiot.bsky.social

On Question Time last night, I talked about the extractive economic model that has left Wales - and many other nations - impoverished *because they were so rich in resources*. You can see the problem simply by looking at the map: the infrastructure looks like a drainage system.

Look at the charlatan James Evans shaking his head at what @georgemonbiot.bsky.social correctly states. When Edwards was a Tory MS, he said Reform's rhetoric was scary. So he joined Reform - to save his seat and his cushy salary. Almost immediately he stated he wouldn't stand again in FOUR YEARS.

Best for Britain@bestforbritain.org

George Monbiot is right: the best option is to rejoin the EU. And the reality is that the process doesn't have to take long. Experts have confirmed that the UK could rejoin within a single Parliament.

Absolutely brilliant from George All the moronic fools in Cymru who, with their Stockholm syndrome, think our problems are self inflicted; that England "bails us out" because we can't look after ourselves - they need to read a few economics/history books - they may discover why we are where we are.

Kemi Badenoch wants to exempt the family home from inheritance tax. But that creates a perverse incentive for elderly people to *upsize* to save IHT. That could double the cost of the policy, and push £100bn+ from savings into housing. A 🧵 on bad tax cuts.

Case in point: today's news of BT's rescue deal for TalkTalk, 5 years after a leveraged buyout that ended up more than doubling its debts to c£1.5bn. LBOs, along with their public sector cousin PFI are some of the worst examples of the neoliberal prioritisation of profit over true economic benefit.

One of many things that puzzles me about finance (I'm a money dummy) is how you can buy giant companies with vast amounts of money that you simply don't have. Seems like this time the market has some questions too.

UK chancellor to meet bank bosses for a pre-budget summit to discuss possible tax raid. Banks profiteering but resent windfall tax. Any chance of ending bank subsidies? Any chance of meeting pensioners, disabled, sick, poor to hear their concerns?

Plaid Cymru has long argued that the role of Secretary of State for Wales is outdated and doesn't reflect the realities of devolution. I hope Stephen Kinnock proves us wrong by showing that the office can be more than Westminster’s voice in Wales.

When Jeremy Hunt made two populist 2% cuts in NI in 6 months - that we now know to have been completely unsustainable & uncosted - where was the right wing media pearl clutching or the constant BBC questions about "how are you paying for this"? The media in the UK is a right wing stitch up.

If Starmer/Reeves or Burnham/Healey had been in charge in 1945, there'd have been no NHS, and no massive housebuilding programme. It's not "Fiscal discipline" to stick to a bunch of made up neoliberal rules, ostensibly designed by a Chancellor whose programme was built on an error in a spreadsheet.

It was totally unsurprising how frequently she interrupted Burnham, while allowing Philp to spout his evidence free bollocks - eg. he said we're a high tax economy when virtually the entire continent of Europe has a higher tax wedge than us - and yet not even the slightest challenge. #BBCLauraK

Anthony McDonald@antmcd7.bsky.social

Just switched back over to see Kuenssberg allow liar Philp to talk uninterrupted

Laura keeps banging on about all these economists calling for cuts. Plenty of economists fully understand the benefits of government stimulus and also appreciate how the economy was skewered by Tory austerity - which is why so many opposed it. #BBCLauraK

I can't understand Labour already managing to get rid of hereditary peers, but not deal with huge donations. While I hate hereditary privilege, those 80 odd peers were far less of a risk than allowing a bunch of cryptocriminals to buy democracy itself. And nobody can say they didn't see it coming.

Reform is the richest party in Britain. Its leaders are almost all millionaires. It is funded almost exclusively by billionaires. It has a supportive TV station and widespread media backing. So naturally, this donation comes with the usual attack on "elites". www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

Jenrick, Reform's wannabe Chancellor of the Exchequer, thinks the conference goer who allegedly attacked a woman should be awarded with a medal.

This is where the hate fuelled disinformation of the right wing always ends up. A quarter of a century ago, Murdoch's News of the World stirred up so much disproportionate news & outrage at paedophiles that a PAEDIATRICIAN's house was attacked, among other cases. This follow's the same M.O.

I pretty much stopped listening to the Today programme during the Brexit debacle as I was sick of its right wing bias, especially re Brexit and especially from the likes of John Humphrys. It has clearly only got worse.
