ANOTHER death in ICE detention which appears likely to be the result of medical neglect.
A diabetic who told his family members he wasn't receiving regular insulin shots OR getting diabetic-appropriate meals just died in custody.
The U.S. prison-ICE detention-industrial complex kills.
A 36-year-old Costa Rican man whose family says he complained of not receiving proper care for his diabetes is the third detainee in less than six months to die at a U.S.
Someone asked me my thoughts on Boston Globe lesbian bar drama: My thoughts are that if you only temporarily struggled with isolation in 2020/2021, we should have more empathy for COVID-cautious people who have limited IRL community due to health concerns.
still stuck at $337 to go to stay housed and medicated this week even after the extra time they gave me for the holiday, and they let me know earlier (had to shower and couldn’t update) if I don’t have it by noon I’ll be asked to leave 😵💫 that’s 11hrs so everything helps! 🫡

my wife has a friend who sent Dolly Parton a painting she made & a letter explaining how much Dolly's music meant to her while she was transitioning. Dolly responded to it personally & paid for her top surgery. Sounds like an urban legend but it's real. I think we're going to more stories like this.
I was today years old when I learned Dolly Parton recorded Woody Guthrie's song "Deportee (Plane Wreck At Los Gatos)" in 1980.
It's a heartbreaking song about immigration and specifically deportation plane that crashed in 1948 killing dozens of Mexican "bracero" workers.
Her version is beautiful💔
Healthcare is suicide prevention.

Universal basic income is suicide prevention.
When we ensure people have their basic needs met, mental health improves.
Fun Fact: If you don’t have a discount code at a supermarket or whatever, try entering that with the local area code. I’ve had it work 90% of the time.
Did once have a Young Go-Getter Cashier tell me that entering a fake code was a crime. I looked him dead in the eye and told him to call the cops.
A blistering reminder that only 5 U.S. states provide air conditioning in all prison units.
And states like Texas and Florida, known for sweltering heat, are not among them:
THIS THIS THIS. So many people tell me "I don't know if I really NEED a cane..." and friends, as a Certified Disabled Person (tm), I am begging you, if you think there's ANY way it might help you even a LITTLE, try it! If it helps, keep using it! You don't even have to use it all the time!
Side note:
If a walking stick or cane seems like a fun accessory, I (as a disabled person who has had to use a cane from time to time) heartily encourage you to use one!
And if it at all makes your life easier, I encourage you EVEN HARDER TO KEEP USING IT.
After ICE shot and killed Lorenzo Araujo, the FBI leaked to Fox News a claim that he was found with possible meth in the van.
His family said it was a total falsehood; it was a bag of salt to be used to make an electrolyte drink. And they were right. It was not drugs.
“At this time, Taylor Fresh Foods has not publicly provided distribution information or a list of customers who received the product that was voluntarily removed from the market,” said the FDA.
The fact that they have a choice in this is a problem.

I often see non-disabled people and people who live without chronic illnesses asking, and to be honest sometimes angrily demanding, why disabled and chronically ill people so often have tattoos and piercings, dye our hair, dress alternatively, decorate or mod our mobility aids
Here's some answers
Part of it is ignorance, but part is because the news (I’m going off what’s happening in Chicago rn) is reporting it as though it is something only “sick” people with respiratory problems need to worry about. They’re running the same old playbook as with covid. And they’ll keep doing it bc it works.
So many people live in a parallel universe. My wife just saw a dude running outside on this 300 AQI evening. And driving back from my poetry reading, I saw numerous cars with all the windows DOWN. Cleveland, what is wrong with y'all?!?
FYI- as I was not sure what to write for comment, found this statement to be good and I think sums up the situation well, and fits easily in the comment section : environmentamerica.org/take-action/...

He died at Irwin, the detention center made notorious by allegations of unwanted gynecological procedures, and that Biden had shut down.
Trump reopened it. Now it’s the site of yet another death in ICE detention following claims of medical neglect.
ICE has killed another person, this time by depriving him of life-sustaining medication for a known medical condition.
Jesus Manuel Arenas-Silva was detained on Thursday. He was dead by Monday.

We're getting tantalizingly close to 10k, which will mean 40% of the bubbles have been filled!!
We have a handful of states that only have a couple bubbles left, then it'll be down to the big boys (California, New York, Florida, PA, Jersey, and the Midwest heavy hitters).

The 2026 United States of Science Challenge starts NOW!
Each bubble represents classrooms we’ve matched with scientists this year.
This a competition to fill bubbles with $10 donations to support @skypeascientist.bsky.social
The first region to fill all bubbles wins.

BBC: Lebanese environmental activist Mona Khalil, whose work helped turn a stretch of coastline in southern Lebanon into one of the eastern Mediterranean's most important nesting sites for endangered sea turtles, has died after being bombed in her home by Israel.

With the rise of MAHA, I wanted to understand why raw milk had grown so popular.
What I learned at Raw Farm was so eye-opening, I wondered how long it would take for another outbreak to occur.
Unbeknownst to me, one was already underway.
“We have a red-flag system here, where if there’s anything that gets really out of whack, they can immediately tag the milk, and it doesn’t go to anything but cheese,” he said. “Because...cheese is resistant to pathogens.”
But research has shown that raw cheese is **not** resistant to pathogens.
On my tour of his farm, McAfee showed me his pathogen laboratory, where he says he tests every batch of raw milk.
"We catch these things and divert the milk immediately."
I assumed that after diverting batches, the farm discarded them.
Later that day, I learned otherwise.
NEW: In February, I visited Raw Farm.
You may have heard of it.
RFK Jr. and Gwyneth Paltrow are customers.
It supplies raw dairy products to 500 stores nationwide.
And regulators have linked it to over a dozen recalls and outbreaks that have made hundreds sick.
