Bradford says the Bloor West data suggest the city "allocated 50% of the road space for half a percentage of road users. And that doesn't work." (By this logic, there are several streets downtown where pedestrians should get MUCH wider sidewalks)

I was on a crowded Dufferin bus from the mall to Bloor street. We sped up the red RapidTO lane, past an unbroken line of cars. A driver might say that’s unfair. But, statistically, there were more people on my one bus than the total of every person in every car we passed. That’s the system working.

It’s been two years since Ontario Place West Island was destroyed for a planned private spa. Hundreds of trees were cut down - here’s a snapshot of the many species who lost habitat. 🧵

Brad Bradford (like Rob Robford before him) is telling you he can shake down every city department and make sure they’re not hoarding pens or whatever and we can have everything we want AND pay less for it. It’s a lie. One we keep falling for. Let’s learn from our mistakes.

Hold the phone, the internet says I *am* fast: "A walking speed of 6 km/h (about 3.7 mph) is considered a fast, brisk walking pace that provides a solid moderate-to-vigorous cardiovascular workout."

Once I asked a VP if I could eat a yogurt during a performance review, and the review went really well; I still think about this all the time

I’m sorry, but if you bring an iced coffee - or any damn beverage at all - to a job interview, you’re disqualified. It’s not hard, people.

I truly, deeply, sincerely do think the guy flipping burgers at McDonalds should be able to afford rent, bills, and groceries with his paycheck alone. That's kind of the whole point of having a job and I can't believe this is considered a radical position.🤷🏽‍♀️

Most people don't know that the best way to make a service more efficient is to bring in a layer of upper management devoted solely to extracting a profit from it. It takes a doctorate in economics to figure that one out.

So they realized they're in the gutter, no revenue in sight, operating at a tremendous loss, and suddenly decided to slow down "to save the humanity."

You’ve gotta use AI because it’s the future. But also it’ll take your job. But also it’ll create a paradise on earth and solve most of our problems. But also it’ll end humanity soon. But also you’ll get left behind if you don’t use it right now.

Ford walked away from an offer to restore travel lanes and keep bike lanes. The RFP makes clear that the province is still targeting EVERY SINGLE METRE of Bloor, Yonge, and University. This wasn't just a ploy to remove bike lanes in Etobicoke. It's an attempt to gut Toronto's entire cycling network.

The backlash to data centers, Flock, Meta glasses, and AI, is loud, animated, bipartisan, and wielding real power. It's the most popular and united political movement in the nation right now, and it's still growing. So of course Silicon Valley is in complete denial.

She also really debunks the common justifications about religion, region, and age. Your grandparents and parents have shitty values because they have shitty values, not because of anything else. They could do better. Anyone can use their eyes to see the world and have the correct read.

What Dolly taught us is that it is in fact possible to be wealthy beyond your wildest dreams of avarice but still be a fundamentally good person with a strong moral compass, and the only reason more rich people aren't like that is because they don't want to be.

Let’s be clear here, when scientists say mistakes were made at the start of the pandemic, we DO NOT mean that we did too much. We mean not socially distancing quickly enough, not making tests widely available, and not acknowledging COVID is airborne and distributing N95 masks to everyone.

For many years, people didn’t randomly film others in public—not because we didn’t have the technology, but because the social contract said you didn’t do that. That’s why Meta is going full court press on their PR and celebrity endorsements. They remember how people ran google glass outta town.

The way this survey crams economic development, job creation and passenger improvements into an ambiguous yes-or-no question that also implies support for new aircraft types (jets) and changes to runways (for jets). As if all these things depend on introducing jets. Smh

The flakey sketchy anon survey monkey (!) the federal government put out on the Island Airport, their "consultation," ends Friday. If you haven't yet be sure to still fill it out. There are places you can add your own thoughts like "this survey is faulty and skews towards done deal" and etc.

No science fiction could have prepared us for just how stupid the end of the world can be. "The environment was on the brink of collapse, and so, rather than deal with that, we burned what fuel we had left getting computers to scam each other for money."

it’s been 21 years since we embarked on this journey of making everything data driven (urchin rebranded to google analytics) and the only data we haven’t been able to collect is how much everything now sucks since this bullshit started
