This is excuse-making by folks who don’t want to feel bad about being associated with the Christians they don’t like. The fascists are “real” Christians too, and always were. If you don’t like how that feels, take it up with them, don’t try to convince the rest of us “they don’t count!”

The media wants you to be outraged at bad Twitter jokes and random heated comments. They want you to direct your anger at random people on Twitter who "took things too far," rather than question the system that led to these conditions in the first place.

usermag.coWhy "we" want insurance executives deadNo, that does not mean people should murder them. But if you've watched a loved one suffer and die from insurance denial, it's normal to wish the people responsible would suffer the same fate.

My Roman Empire is how the word “Neanderthal” used to be shorthand for “stupid/primitive” until it came out that ppl of European descent have Neanderthal DNA & suddenly news outlets published a bunch of stories about how Neanderthals were very smart & innovative, actually. Like this: bit.ly/3D1CtuS

bit.lyRethinking NeanderthalsResearch suggests they fashioned tools, buried their dead, maybe cared for the sick and even conversed. But why, if they were so smart, did they disappear?

Also I did NOT see that video of the soldier getting spun around by a protester until Ryan posted it in his newsletter! These are literal military by the way, not riot cops. Riot cops wear goofy ass vests and don't carry guns because the vibes remind people of Gwangju x.com/IwriteOK/sta...

Many organizations for women in tech and other under-represented groups have shut down the past few years like Women Who Code and Girls In Tech. One of the reasons cited is lack of funds If you are able to, please donate to organizations that support underrepresented people in tech 🧵

Hi, so I've spent the past almost-decade studying research uses of public social media data, like e.g. ML researchers using content from Twitter, Reddit, and Mastodon. Anyway, buckle up this is about to be a VERY long thread with lots of thoughts and links to papers. 🧵

I just had a sobering thought. If I didn't have ADHD, I would probably be a much worse programmer and a much better writer. I'm not real sure what to do with this right now.

This past summer, I had an opportunity to follow and photograph several colonies of oak treehoppers from newly laid eggs to the emergence of adults. Oak treehoppers are unique in that mamas stay with and protect their young throughout their entire development. Check out this emergence of an adult!

If surveys and election results aren't evidence you're out of step with voters then it is only resolvable by continued adjudication of elections, I guess we'll see in 2026 and 2028 if the standard of evidence for your humility in defeat is a bar you hold above the water as you drown.

Bluesky has been independent from the start, but it took six months of negotiation in 2021 to set it up that way, and from the outside during that period it looked like the project was going to remain vaporware forever. Very glad we are alive today — it very easily could have turned out otherwise.
