I’m fairly certain that if we trained AI on only images produced before 1850, basically no photographs, no pop art, no surrealism etc. it would produce a very narrow range of imagery. Once we have destroyed art, writing and film as careers and only have AI we will have nothing new.

Two bystanders, including a television reporter, rescued a driver from a sinking car trapped in floodwaters in Morayfield, Australia, on Thursday. Australian Broadcasting Corporation reporter Will Murray and another man jumped into the water and swam towards the vehicle to help the trapped driver.

The covid inquiry module 6 (care homes) report publishes today. I hope the worst health secretary we could possibly have had is excoriated. He deserves to be. #CovidInquiry #CareHomes

So they're at it again 🙄 Torturing valid HMRC data to create wildly misleading headlines, designed to invoke fear and anger about immigrants. Same old, same old... (and you'll see just how old shortly!) 🧵1/28

I say this a lot but when I started in the comics industry, for whatever reason, there were almost no women working as creators in mainstream comics. Quite a few in indie books and some behind the scenes. But not many with their name on the front of a DC/Marvel book. The legends had left.

Suella Braverman, consider Walter Tull. Born in Folkestone to an English mother and a Barbadian father. A footballer for Tottenham Hotspur and Northampton Town. A British Army officer who led soldiers into battle and was killed serving his country in 1918.

Brexiters should be rejoicing at Burnham’s speech. They can campaign on all the ways Brexit has improved our lives and the fortunes of our country. They can set their case out clearly and with facts for all to see. Bet they can’t wait.

🧵 As front-page headlines go, this has to be one of the most misleading I've seen in a long time It's an out-and-out lie But notice the trick they use to get away with it...👀 *They're* not lying - they're just quoting someone else who is👍🏻 In this case, the leader of the opposition🙄 1/33

@scalzi.com I’m currently re-reading the Old Man’s War series prior to starting Shattered Peace. Just because you might have one - do you have a series FAQ? e.g. Parallels between CU and East India Company - intended or situational?

Dictators have often seen books (other than regime-authorised publications and hagiographies of themselves) as a threat. So glad this man managed to preserve his library from Assad's goons.

Friend shared this video of a man unveiling the library he hid when he fled Damascus in 2011. It’s incredible

I plead with people not to propagate their "it won't make a difference; his supporters love him" gloom. Actually, Farage is on the ropes and he didn't get there by himself. He's there because people continue to believe resistance does make a difference. It's also wrong on the facts. 1/3

Jason Arday was driven to suicide but this is what counts as normal at Cambridge. It was never about standards. It was always about maintaining white male mediocrity.

A reminder, last year The Spectator did an interview so fawning & uncritical of the Tate Brothers , that victims of the Tates had to complain to Ipso about it. Editor Michael Gove also champions the IDF & hates people of colour . The Spectator Summer Party is eagerly anticipated & attended 🥂.

One of the first "outrageous" claims I saw as Jason Arday's media hounding unfolded was that he ran 30 marathons in 35 days! Wow! What a thing to claim! And the newspapers all suggested there was no evidence he actually did it. Well, they clearly didn't look very hard 🙄 🧵 1/26
