Way back in the day, Danny Baker described 'the internet' (this was the early-mid 90s) as, "being like going through the phone book asking each number if they like Batman". Anyway, who here likes *waves arms* ... stuff?

Every time I remember I would very much like to watch this film, I am then instantly reminded that it doesn't appear to be legally available for streaming anywhere.

The Young Poisoner's Handbook is a twistedly comic mid-nineties thriller that was overshadowed by Trainspotting and dogged by accusations of bad taste, and then essentially disappeared. Is it worth another look? Join me on @britcomgoes.bsky.social to find out... timworthington.org/2026/05/21/b...

Are we going to spend our time listing all the science, literature and philosophy? Please don't, he knows he's lying. Most racists do

This weird 'Kane ends England's wait for the Ballon d'Or' reporting is baffling. Nobody has been waiting. Heck, ten years ago, nobody really knew what the Ballon d'Or was. I'm not convinced most do now.

Sausagemeat is smarter than this motherfucker. The relentless idiocy of this regime is *exhausting*. It's unbearable.

it sounds contradictory but it's really not. They say "Protect" bc they see women's sports as a cute charity for little girls rather than legit competitions people care about and strive for. They're always baffled when they show up at women's sports and find people who actually care about the games

I will obviously never listen to it again but Audible achieved great things with the Sandman audio drama. They've also done, among others, Poirot, The Three Musketeers and the Arabian Nights.

Duncan Weldon@duncanweldon.bsky.social

Kinda fascinated by this sort of thing. Like the full all-star cast Harry Potter audible books, which I presume did well? Are we re-inventing the radio play?

Andy Burnham tells Good Morning Britain ”We’re way away” from rejoining the EU and he is not proposing rejoining within this Parliament. But Burnham says there has been a “harder Brexit” than the Leave referendum campaign promised. “I think we can make it better”.

It’s almost as though “gifts for men” (or “gifts for women”) is nowhere near as useful a classification as “gifts for readers”, “gifts for cooks”, “gifts for pet owners”, etc. etc. Perhaps we can infer something from this.

Clara Jeffery@clarajeffery.bsky.social

Man the lists for “suggested gift for male friends” is so bereft, it’s all wallet or headphones or booze. I pride myself on being a good gift giver and I will not be defeated.

Just ludicrous conditions but massive credit to everyone who got the game on Waltham Abbey rode three quick goals in the first half to take this FA Trophy tie 3-2 More (from the first half, I hid in the second) to follow

The morning refs who called the games on: I get why you did but we're now over an hour into a full afternoon of heavy rain after the rain that caused flooding yesterday. I am not hopeful the games will survive the pitch inspections an hour out from kick off.

I absolutely love silent cinema. My only issue, and it is a skills issue, is being able to locate the best and cleanest print versions of the films I want to see, and then being able to actually conveniently stream them. I feel the BFI is the biggest villain in this. BFI Player has so few silents.

Movies Silently@moviessilently.bsky.social

Okay, I want you to do something for me. I have noticed quite a few people who first see a silent movie they like feel the need to set it apart and almost apologize for liking it. "Unlike most melodramatic performances of the era, this was subtle!"

There's a few but the one I'm probably most passionate about is photography. There are now more and better pictures being taken by more people, and shared more widely, than at any point. And the standards people have are better as a result, and the quality of images higher than ever before.

Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

This shit just writes itself at this point. Just the name "Epic AI MegaJam" is a joke that best describes what is going on with these companies.

The absolute shitshow of that darts thing on Netflix makes sense when you realise that not only was Eddie Hearn doing the picking, Phil Taylor was alongside him.

So there appears to be a decent looking Gaelic language horror launching on the BBC tomorrow. Must remember to look up "Loch nam Madadh" at some point in the near future.

Just saw Josh Widdicombe on Who do you Think You Are. He seems like a nice enough chap, and the history was quite interesting, but it's all twaddle-bollocks isn't it? I mean, if he's a descendant of someone 15 generations back, so is everyone alive today with British ancestry.

Essentially ... 90% of people find their friends and family more useful for personal advice than AI

Social Market Foundation@smfthinktank.bsky.social

🚨 NEW POLLING🚨 AI is now so good at mimicking empathy that many people prefer it to their friends. 1 in 5 UK adults have used an AI chatbot for personal or relationship advice – and 54% of them found it more helpful than talking to friends or family.

I should just, occasionally, convert this account into what it honestly wants to be: just an Angel Reese highlights reel.

WNBA@wnba.com

Angel Reese turned up in front of the home crowd 🤩 She was consistent from start to finish recording 21 PTS, 12 REB, 3 AST, 3 STL & 2 3PM on 7-12 shooting! She's averaging 21.7 PPG & 13.3 RPG through the Finals and becomes the second player to reach those averages across any 3-game WNBA Finals span

Players get injured all the time, obviously. But there is something achingly inevitable about a player like Saka getting injured given the demands put on him game after game after game.

Luxembourg up by a goal, Britain being thwarted by wayward shooting and good goalkeeping. Both sides keep losing their heads in attack, generally. Really enjoying the game though. #handball

It is to the lasting shame of (some of) the voters of North West England that they put someone into the European Parliament who thinks it’s fine to murder young children for political ends.
