I learned how to write courtroom dispatches by studying good sports reporting—the play-by-play zip, the punchy verbs, etc. But honestly, sports journalists could learn a thing or two from legal journalists, too. Lesson for both: always read the local rules!!!
did any sports journalists even raise article 27 as a possibility before now? every source i read after the game seemed to be like “there is no way balogun will be able to play against belgium bc FIFA rules don’t provide a way to challenge/appeal the red card”

It’s been five years since Alex Jones lost InfoWars to the Sandy Hook families. As the verdict came down, he asked: “Do these people actually believe they’re getting any money?” He hasn't paid them a penny. Well, The Onion is going pay them anyway. The new InfoWars begins July 2nd at 8 p.m. ET.

"The most underappreciated aspect of the Trump era is the extent to which Trump demonstrated the inadequacy of law as a mechanism for protecting the government from unscrupulous presidents." We published this *before* Trump began his second term.

It remains baffling to me that we have a clear constitutional requirement that the president can't enrich himself on the job, something we had no problem enforcing strictly for hundreds of years, and then this sweaty conman came by and the nation just sorta shrugged it off.
Trump bought stock in the UFC’s parent company while promoting fights set to take place at the White House on his birthday, HuffPost has learned

As a Crim Law prof and casebook author, this physically pains me. It commits basic errors that my 1Ls would never make. First, it conflates vicarious/conspiracy liability with accomplice/derivative liability. You can't use vicarious liability (Pinkerton) w/out a conspiracy charge. 1/
With trial nearing for the remaining members of the Broadview 6, a new filing tonight offers insight into how the feds view the case after dropping the conspiracy charge: "All the actions by all the members of the mob were clearly foreseeable to each of them. They are all therefore responsible …"

When the topic turns to "what comes next" and "what should we do," we should defer to historians in the same way we defer to doctors on vaccines, lawyers on criminal defense and military generals on strategy and tactics. They're going to tell us stuff like this and it's vital to America's future.
Gonna spend the next two years spamming every elected Dem about the concept of "damnatio memoriae." Chisel his name off every inscription. Build over the various Trump Towers like they're Nero's Golden House. Remove him from physical memory, not to forget but as a sign of disrespect to the man.
