This is a top ten all timer record for me, one of the most delightful things ever committed to tape. Go buy it!!

Sweet Lucy! The 1976 classic Have Moicy! is now on Bandcamp. In a «2026 remastered» edition. Particularly handy as it’s currently out of print, and 2nd hand copies have become expensive, as far as I can tell. The CD version I own goes for around €50 now. craftrecordings.bandcamp.com/album/have-m...

There’s a beautiful new edition of Evan S. Connell’s Mrs. Bridge, which is on my personal great American novel shortlist. if you’ve never read it, now’s your chance! i have yet to meet a single reader who didn’t have their world changed by reading it: mcnallyjackson.com/book/9781582...

This is terrific and worth your time. (One of the many things I admire about it is that it makes the persuasive arguments without pretending that we’ll be able to discern the AI from the human-generated.)

I didn't want to write about AI or have an AI policy for EPOCH because I thought it went without saying...that was naive of me, I think. Click through to read my blog post on the subject, if you like.

I read Attention-Seeking Behavior by Aea Varfis-van Warmelo because of the review by @justintaylor.bsky.social and, as usual, he did not steer me wrong! I'm not going top that with my own. Just read the linked review! And, also, read the book! It's great! But I do have some thoughts... 🖋️📚💙 [1/8]

had the pleasure of writing about this great strange bracing debut novel

Taught this essay to a grad nonfiction class the year it was in BAE ( @alexanderchee.bsky.social, ed.) & we had a blast discussing it, listening to the song in class to hear what So heard, & then doing an exercise where they each picked a song of their own to listen to a billion times & write about

New at The New Yorker: my interview with David Wain about his comedy career, from the State to "Wet Hot American Summer" to his latest film, "Gail Daughtry and the Celebrity Sex Pass," about a woman on a quest to do Jon Hamm. (Aren't we all?) www.newyorker.com/culture/the-...

Another funny thing re this: by late 94 MTV had asked Dylan to do Unplugged & it was a huge hit. Turned young viewers onto him in droves even as his presence validated MTV for older generations. he released it as a live album in 95 & there’s a clear if crooked path from here to his “comeback” in 97

Writing tip: Give your protagonist a pet cat. In the final pages, shift to the cat's point of view. Follow the cat outside, through moonlit woods, to a pasture where cows kneel in worship around a glowing spacecraft. As the cat trots up its gangway, we glimpse in the windows an all-cat crew.

🐑 I recommended Mark Doten’s 2025 collection Whites 🐑

I was sick of seeing JD Vance's memoir get all of the book coverage. So I asked a bunch of writers I know and love what recent books they think should get more attention. These are books for people who actually like to read. Please check them out! lithub.com/40-great-new...
