Kristin Rose Jutras 38m Devastated to share that my husband, @jutraslab.bsky.social, passed away. People are writing fake obituaries online/sharing on social media that Brandon died of Lyme disease. This is not true and is an affront to everything Brandon stood for as a scientist: the truth.

Interested in joining our group in Oxford? We are looking for a PDRA with single particle Cryo-EM experience to help us figure out how sphingolipids are transported to the cell surface of Gram-negative bacteria. The deadline is 31st July. Informal enquires are welcome. Please share!

Great to see this out, congrats!

🚨 New in @natmicrobiol.nature.com! We reveal how the antibiotic target PBP1b fortifies the E.coli division site against osmotic rupture. Proud this was completed in our independent labs @dmf-unil.bsky.social, with @avettiger.bsky.social. Congratulations to all authors! 🦠❄️🔬 #teamtomo bit.ly/3SCbOg1 👇

Happy 159th Canada Day to all my fellow Canucks out there! 🇨🇦 🍁 🇨🇦 May your papers be reviewed rapidly, your grants received favorably, and your science continue to motivate and inspire all nations; wherever it takes place 💪

Highly recommend npj antimicrobials and resistance! It was an excellent experience and a transparent process. The future is bright! Well done 👏

Today npj Antimicrobials and Resistance has received its first impact factor. Now, we all know that impact factors don't tell the whole story and aren't a standalone mark of quality. That said, we are hugely proud of the success of the journal so far....

Congrats to Julia Van Riel—current research technician in the lab—for her hard work, dedication, AND admissions into the MD/PhD program at Case Western! 🎉 You’re lucky @casewestern.bsky.social! Her smile this morning was a reminder of why I do this 🥹 B on the lookout for new search info to share

NoA on April Fool’s Day… let’s hope it’s for real. 🎉🎉🎉 Very excited to advance our studies on the cell biology of the tick-borne obligate intracellular pathogen Rickettsia parkeri!!

After 7 yrs in the books, the lab turns 8 today! So thankful and proud of all the fabulous trainees who have gone to fantastic positions in industry and academia, including one that will open the doors to their own lab in the fall.

Today was an inspirational reminder of why I love biology, physics, & the scientist that do both so well. Thanks so much to friend and colleague @fleshball.bsky.social for sharing and potentially changing how biomed folks think about bacteria. Exhausted, & yet don’t recall feeling more invigorated 💪

MS/MS scan range can be an afterthought that doesn't receive attention in method design, but improper settings can affect experimental outcomes. This is especially true in glycoproteomics. A #glycotime thread about a new #JASMS paper on this idea from @riley-research.bsky.social 1/10

Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson, Baker Mayfield, Saquon Barkley. All exceptional, immediately, or in time. But, Sam Donald was drafted early in that class and was largely considered a bust. Maturity, patience, and perseverance drove Sam. Don’t love the Seahawks, but love the grit and determination. 👍 Sam!

Postdoc memories (sort of) "Green Light", 1937, is partially set in the Bitterroot Valley, Montana, deals with tick-borne disease. It includes shots of my old lab home at Rocky Mountain Labs, Hamilton. The lab itself looks almost identical to when I was there, 1994-1998. The film stars Errol Flynn.

It’s batshit that study sections that didn’t meet in Nov (that were originally supposed to meet after gov re-opened anyway) were postponed 2+ months. It’s flat out stupid to reschedule them for 2 days AFTER the CR was set to expire! Did they seriously think ‘nah, couldn’t happen again?!?!?’ 😡🤬😡

It’s more than comical that this article is behind a paywall, despite the new NIH guidelines

NIH Director Jay Bhattacharya has just published a piece about his “new vision” for NIAID. Friends, it is an infuriating litany of unsupported claims and meandering nonsense that serve his political beliefs and not health or science.
