Incredibly excited about our latest work on R-bodies, 5+ years in the making! These coiled protein ribbons extend into ~10 µm needles in a pH-dependent manner & we caught them springing open inside amoebae after P. aeruginosa gets eaten. (animation: Jegg Yoon)🧵1/2 www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...

I have a sticker that says “something wonderful is about to happen” that I got about 25-30 years ago. I’ve put it above every desk I’ve worked at. A little positivity goes a long way.

I know it’s sorta cheesy but someone posted this from Paris on Reddit and I felt this immediate rush of hope

Well, I'd like to just stay a marine microbiologist, but....my sibling is entering a clinical trial. So any peeps out there who are in biomedical land and want to tell me more about ERAS 0015, I'm all ears. It's a KRAS inhibitor, and he's got a specific KRAS mutation. Fingers crossed. 🤞

They’re both bangers…but you gotta go with “I learned it by watching you”

ElieNYC@elienyc.bsky.social

Hive mind, settle a Gen X debate for me. What's more famous: "I learned it by watching you" OR "This is your brain on drugs" And if you need more context then you aren't allowed to answer.

I appreciate that Dolly Parton refused to participate in "dress respectability" and, by her own account, modeled her aesthetic after a town "tramp," who she thought was beautiful. She separated aesthetics from character and understood "classiness" to be about how you treat people, not how you dress.

Here's the official announcement of Parton's passing from her reps, along with the request that in lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library at www.imaginationlibrary.com

Alex Zalben@azalben.bsky.social

Dolly Parton, among a thousand other amazing things she did in her life, gifted over 330 million books to kids through her Imagination Library program. Her passing is a tremendous loss to the world, but you can support the program today to keep it going imaginationlibrary.com

Remember that if you got the Moderna Covid vaccine, you have Dolly Parton to thank, she gave the largest individual contribution toward their research to make it possible.

Just had my daily reminder of how wonderful the NIH peeps are who handle all of the work involved in managing grants for those of us out here in extramural land. The NIH staff really are the best humans, working so hard to ensure that the science can continue in incredibly challenging times.

You are up to date.
