I’m seriously so happy I’m back in my music production groove. I was so scared I had lost my touch, but I reminded myself of who I was, and found it. I’m so excited to make stuff, learn, maybe even perform. EDM has been challenging for me to learn how to make, but I’m getting it now. 💙💙💙

Furry has always been a fandom made up of a bunch of people with various interests. It's a melting pot of various subcultures because of a shared interest. While there's always a few rotten apples in any fandom, that doesn't mean you can vilify the parts of it you personally dislike.

I had a conversation with some friends (who are game devs primarily), and we were discussing AI, and how stupid it is to use it to create an entire application (idc what it is) in minutes, when that was never the point of what coding or development was supposed to do.

I could do a whole rant about this, but generative AI, even separating the moral and environmental aspects of the argument, soulless and pointless, especially in game dev. Every line, every mechanic, everything has intention and purpose. AI cannot emulate intention, it can only pretend.

I don’t care if you can one shot the next big friend game. I dont care if you can make 7D Chess with guns and a MOBA. In one afternoon. Humans were NOT meant to view art and craft as a measure of productivity. The amount of time is irrelevant to whatever work you are creating…

Imagine you ask Claude or Codex to make FriendOS, or ATLYSS, or even Wizard101. It cannot do it. But even if it could… what is the point? What’s the end goal? What did you gain? It wasn’t even you that made it; it was a literal LLM!! You learned nothing and removed all the identity of your game.

Literally, always ask your network (esp furries) who can refer you. You wanna work at a tech company XYZ? Ask on Bsky if anyone knows anyone who works at XYZ who can refer you. Everyone wins since if you get hired, they get a bonus for referring you.

gonna add onto this take by adding music into this my friend @schwank.getlit.me completely changed my view on music discourse. I think saying music is not for me, or not my style is way more descriptive than saying it is good or bad. It allows people to know more about you and your preferences.

Discourse like this benefits much better by using specific, descriptive words that center around a broader context, like what a person likes in music or what a culture likes in music. This also dips into the fact that musical tools have no alignment. They are tools that are used to evoke feelings.

Feelings are important. Tools can be used to do many things. But exploring why this is, and why this evokes a feeling in you is way more productive than saying “X genre of music is bad”. that’s my talk for the day

Now that said, I do think it’s not necessarily reductive to say that music is good or bad (see Yuno Miles or DistantCry as examples of music “made to be bad”) but I think this discourse is screaming for nuance. Saying something is good or bad by itself doesn’t do anything. It needs context.

DistantCry makes “bad” music because the music is designed in a way to be specifically unlistenable by breaking so many norms and musical conventional wisdom through his beats, and that’s what makes it “bad”. Just saying something is bad by itself gives a severe lack of depth.
