Booker, just minutes away from the speaking record: "This is when the most precious ideas of our country are being tested, where the Constitution and the question is being called -- Where does the constitution live? On paper? Or in our hearts? This is the moment."

As someone who spends a lot time thinking about the values I want to teach my kid (besides PLEASE DON’T EAT DIRT), the thing I keep coming back to is this: I want him to believe that the strongest, bravest thing he can do is give a shit about other people—especially ones who aren’t like him at all.

The Trump Administration has made a big deal about the emergency waivers it created for "lifesaving" aid work. But these waivers are not working as intended. Even the most critical work—Ebola outbreak containment, treating babies with AIDS—is halted. My latest: www.wired.com/story/the-us...

James Madison nailed it "The accumulation of all powers, legislative, executive, and judiciary, in the same hands, whether of one, a few, or many, and whether hereditary, self-appointed, or elective, may justly be pronounced the very definition of tyranny."

I wish I'd kept a diary every year of my life. I have several years, but huge huge gaps, and when I look back it's astonishing how much you forget, the versions of yourself that you have no recollection of. My one life tip would be - keep a diary. Start today. Write down anything at all.

I think anyone who got a Hugo this year, or was a finalist (or should have been a finalist) get to process the behind-the-scenes nonsense however they choose to. For me, at least, there is no wrong answer here. The issue is not them, it is and always will be the bonkers acts of the administrators.

As someone who was also a recipient of a Hugo Award in Chengdu, I, too, have conflicted feelings about my award. But I have decided to keep my award and treat it as an odd family heirloom acquired under unusual circumstances. I hope Ms. Mills comes to terms with this in her own way...
