❦ The Great Japan Instant Curry Review Thread Part 3🧵 (Curries 81-110) The curries go marching one by one, hurrah, hurrah! 80 curries in, & I think I've only scratched the surface! ☞ Ratings out of 10. A ⁵⁄₁₀ is a solid curry. There are better & worse, but 5s are meant to be average yet good.

Allow me to add a list of short Japanese books! Contemporary authors include - Kaori Fujino (1980- ) - Natsuko Imamura (1980- ) - Hitomi Kanehara (1983- ) - Sayaka Murata (1979- ) - Ao Omae (1992- ) - Rin Usami (1999- ) - Risa Wataya (1984- ) - Nao-Cola Yamazaki (1978- )

I used to think work from home in Fridays was the ticket, but nah nah, it's Mondays! You sleep in a bit after the weekend, and you can wrap up the odds 'n ends you didn't get done. Run the hoover, meal prep lunch for the other 4 days, etc.

I'm going to make my special handshake simply the way Ken & Ryu do a vertical fist bump.

I have a question for folks in Japan. Where did the smoked paprika go? It used to be in there with all the seasonings, but now I can't find it anywhere.

At the office until 9pm? Takeout NY-style pizza helps.

Nina Metayer has multiple world's best pastry chef awards under her belt. Now, she has set up shop in Tokyo, where matcha-infused sponge cakes join signature treats like pecan praline with Madagascar vanilla mousse.

EMERGENCY!!! 😭💜🖤 I've been referred to a hospital tomorrow for possible surgery. I'm completely out of money, and I'm going to need some for the hospital visit, any medicine they might give me, and possibly a taxi ride home. I think maybe $200 would be enough to make sure I'm ok.

I only follow & like friends & artists on IG; don't post. BUT for 2 weeks an AI-gen girl—made to look flesh & blood—keeps popping up to sit on my face, which (besides making me look over my shoulder to see if someone is behind me on the train during commute) has me wondering how tf this algo works.

Reading the transcript from a talk given by Ursula K. Le Guin in 2013 where she discusses how govn't & corporations are seeking to get rid of copyright. We've known it was coming, but didn't anticipate the vehicle. We can't really claim we thought we'd have more time to figure out our response.

Apologies in advance, but I can't afford to feel bad about it. It is time for the big push for my book KAIBYO THE SUPERNATURAL CATS OF JAPAN. Preorders this month will make or break not only the success of the book, but my future books with the publisher. Please buy link.amazon/B0d6PY7Gv

You can tell I just had my health checkup because I'm out trying to get my 10k steps at 11pm while drinking a non-alcoholic chu-hai. I didn't see any mosquitoes, but my ankles certainly did. #健康診断

Reading Instagram posts about Tokyo hoping for a new stationery store or restaurant, and I come across: "Tucked secretly away on the 2nd floor." Not reading any more from that account. I waited 90 minutes ON A WEEKDAY to get into that curry restaurant. Nothing secret or tucked about it.

At some point when I wasn't paying attention, LinkedIn turned into Tinder apparently.

Our workshop on games and emotion at the @adascot.bsky.social festival. @d-livingstone.bsky.social and I are clearly having just as much fun as the kids! Nice to be able to offer a different kind of game design knowledge, helping kids analyse how games create *experiences*. @sit-gsa.bsky.social

Film director Toshio Masuda — known in anime for directing several films in the Space Battleship Yamato franchise and outside of anime for co-directing the Japanese sequences of Tora! Tora! Tora! — died last month at 98 years old.

I really like chicken hearts, but I don't think I've ever seen them deep-fried before! This is my local izakaya that we both usually get out of for less than ¥5000 incl. drinks. There are still awesome small restaurants around.

Of course, you can borrow my umbrella! As they say, "mi 𝘬𝘢𝘴𝘢 es tu 𝘬𝘢𝘴𝘢."

Just sent out the September newsletter. I looked at the very curious をかわる construction and wrote about how I learned what it means. It took having a child for it to truly sink in. newsletter.howtojapanese.com/kawaru/

Went to a freelance translator meetup after TGS last night, & it was lovely seeing some old faces. It was even better to see all the shiny new ones! I think localization will be okay for at least a little while yet.

The way this guy says "Chibi Anime" has completely destroyed my vocabulary.

By the way, 40才 today 😅 I turned 15 THAT day.

What really rocked me as a Midwesterner & an American about 9/11 was David Foster Wallace's article about it that I didn't read until years later. It's almost prophetic about the distinctions between what parts of America are. www.rollingstone.com/feature/davi...

Today on The Greatest Games You (Probably) Never Played, let's look at Hagane: The Final Conflict, a cyber ninja action game from the SNES that's hard, yes, but quite fun and well worth your time to check out! #gaming #videogames #retrogames

When you work in freelance game translation, this can often be about the amount of background information you're given before starting a new project.

A friend says she finds men in ancient Roman attire really hot. They're トガらしい 🌶️

What gif shows up when you type in your name? Well...

I'm no stranger to doing odd jobs. I've been a phonesex operator, a lesbian escort, a construction worker (cement mixing), secretary, magazine illustrator. I studied Medicine. But the one thing I know how to do well is game art. I have a passion for it and 21 years under my belt. I wanna work ❤️‍🩹

I somehow slept directly on my left hip, & today I feel like the oldest man in history.

Ah, yes, a carefully prepared meal brought from home.

Happy to introduce the Gameloc Portfolio Directory on Loc'd and Loaded! Much like its Agency counterpart, this project allows translators working in games, manga, anime etc. to showcase their portfolios, free of algorithmic biases: locdandloaded.net/2026/08/31/g...

Wendy's in Japan does in fact have chili! Not sure the hot seasoning did anything...

Got some lil octopus-cut sausages at our local izakaya 🦑 Are they not cute? 😆

There's a lot of fun talk around what to call different groups of animals, particularly specific types of humans, BUT... What's a group of tanuki to be called? My first thought was "puddle." Ideas?

Love my ROG Kithara headset, but the right side stopped working for no apparent reason. Saw online other people have had this problem. I hope I can get a replacement that doesn't break because it really is a great headset for gaming, especially for directional hearing.

Y'know people do these "watch all of someone's filmography" type things, and that's great. I want more folks to adopt doing it with authors. Admittedly, it does take longer, but you can always set a timelimit. Do you know how good life is with 6 months of Hannah Arendt or Italo Calvino?
