Look, I know all the reasons we got here, but we really need to start seriously thinking about what we do in a world where The Markets punish whole countries for voting for decency, compassion, and fairness. We must stop pretending the capitalist machine is an objective, value neutral force.
Ok so this may be the first time in my entire life that the employers were *excited* for me to be there.
My hiring was literally highlighted in the new employee on boarding presentation
Hi. I, a trans woman, am the Executive Producer of this show. I wrote the question. He called trans girls men. He has now said it in three different places in the past week.

Details on the Jurassic Park truck from the other day. The blue edge highlighting might be too subtle. Might go back to it later, but very happy with the flatbed.

2.34% is about 8mil.
That's the population of Washington State. That's more than 37 states.
If someone said "oh, everyone in Washington State isn't allowed human rights" there'd be pitchforks and torches.
"Trans people are a tiny group with no power"
This isn't true, and I hope my trans readers can internalize this. You are more powerful than you think.
Trans and gender expansive people are 2.34% of the US population in the latest survey.
That is more than enough to swing a race.

I think people intuitively understand that democratic candidates tossing trans kids to the wolves is not only morally repugnant but also politically ineffective, otherwise they wouldn't freak out every time someone said they weren't voting for a democrat who did this

"What was your biggest impact on the internet?"
I maintain me and a squad 4 others borked the in game player economy of EverQuest so badly back in the early 00s, it affected the game design of World of Warcraft's tierd crafting system and auction house.

Legit actual economist nerds pointed to our server and were all "what in the actual fuck is going on there to fuck it all up???"
It was one college student nerd in New Hampshire, a married couple in Boston, an AOL tech support lady in Florida, and a Military Police guy in Germany. All bored.
I absolutely maintain that when in development of WoW, the staff looked at our server's effed up economy and went "yeah.... let's not do that."
We maintained it for a solid 2 years.
Five of us on one server changed how WoW was developed.
Zebuxoruk for life yo.

It's the illegal shit Wall St bros dream of.
Websites that tracked prices on the 30+ EverQuest servers showed the inflation that was caused by just five of us was astronomically higher than any other.
Across the board inflation borked everything.
In the early 00s there was a literal economist doctoral candidate that wrote research papers on the grey market economy forces at work because people would sell in game currency for real money.
(The platinum to dollar exchange rate put EQ's economy slightly behind Russia if it was a real nation)

By cornering the market on the essential commodity... the player made gear shot up in price. It took *thousands* of that Item A to skill up high enough to make the good gear and you weren't guaranteed success when you crafted to have anything to get your money back with

Me and four others in my guild made alt accounts to be the Bazaar Mule. It was very common once the game made a way to transfer items between characters.
The sneaky part was... none of our Bazaar Mules were tagged into the guild.
We were anonymous randos.
Then we bought *all* of the bottom of the crafting pyramid.
All.
Every single one.
And then price fixed the hell out of it 5x the original average price.
We ruthlessly bought out anyone that tried to undercut us. We had all the supply.

Eventually, the devs (oddly enough, a division of Sony back then) created a central zone called the Bazaar where you pretty much turned yourself into a merchant others could right click and buy from while you were AFK.
If you could run your computer constantly, it was solid.

In EQ, you used 2 of Item A to make Item B. 3 of Item B to make Item C. Etc etc and so on.
So to make high end player mad gear (which was often the best tradable gear), you might need dozens or even a hundred plus of Item A.
The crafting system was a pyramid, not tiered.
Selling things worked very different in EQ. WoW created the now standard auction house where you put your items in the system to do their thing.
Didn't exist in EQ. In the early days, every server just had a zone where people sat around and yelled a lot. It was literal chaos.

When WoW dropped, it was the commonly held opinion that the devs were all EverQuest players that fixed some of the most annoying parts of EverQuest. Like creating the zeps and flight paths. In game travel was sloooow in EQ
WoW has a tier system for crafting. You used tier 1 materials to make tier 1 items. Once you skilled up enough, you went up a tier and didn't really need the lower tier stuff anymore.
110% not how EverQuest worked.
Stopped in and chatted with one of the owners of The Golden Owl bookshop in New London.
They loved Once Upon a Punk Show and will be getting copies soon 😜
Also, straight up said they love doing events so that might be a thing 🤘
Locus recommended THIS IS AN EMERGENCY BROADCAST!
So happy! I poured my heart & soul, my rage & hope into it.
