You only have to look at the legacy media furor over KCHRA's accounting error in a similar amount to see how they'd cover it. King 5 had a poll up asking if the cops should even have to pay it back ffs

Can you imagine if someone "accidentally" overpaid SPS teachers $13 million? The Times would be demanding long prison sentences. Every teacher who cashed their paycheck would be dragged before a committee. The entire school board would have to resign. No bottom to how bad SPD can be at their job.

Let's do austerity for everyone but hand $68m to this. It's what sensible progressive urbanists endorse!

The messages in which officers Daniel Valencia and Matthew Stewart strategized their reports were part of a longer string of texts that started one hour and 14 minutes after they’d killed Joshua Musselman from more than 100 feet away as he was fleeing into his apartment.

@sound-transit.bsky.social, could someone explain why you put a big photo of District 5 City Council Candidate Julie Kang at the newly opened Pinehurst Station? This is an outrageous use of public resources. This photo needs to be taken down, or at least covered up, until after the election.

A new security report from King County Metro shows that reported security incidents on buses are now less common than they were PRE-PANDEMIC, even after adjusting for somewhat lower bus ridership. In 2019, Metro saw 64 incidents per million boardings. In 2026 that number has dropped below 60.

While this looks transit-oriented, maximizing access to the subway would look more like circles of residential density around each station, rather than one long string of density down the road.

We need to dramatically reduce the paperwork and administrative burden for tenants and applicants to "affordable housing." Many many people who would qualify for rent-restricted housing instead choose market rate units at around the same cost because of the invasive and constant paperwork!

you give me a public tv station in seattle and within 3 weeks i'll give you a full slate of programs by insane transgenders willing to do tons of work as cheap as possible just to make some real public art they can show off. it'd be glorious.

We are collectively like 1 bad event away from people starting up Analogue TV stations again. The people crave authenticity. Something's gotta give.

Additionally, Seattle Public Schools will be providing free meals, because your kids should not go without support while adults work toward a resolution. For the parent who cannot miss work, for the student who counts on a school meal, this is what your city is here for.

In Seattle, affordability requirements carry no corresponding offsetting benefit for developers, which makes them a tax on housing. In Bellevue, affordability requirements come with a generous property tax exemption that offsets the added cost to developers. Here’s the scoreboard:

The Urbanist@theurbanist.org

In the first six months of 2026, Bellevue saw at least 1,585 new multifamily units enter the pipeline, compared to just 1,137 housing units in Seattle. The numbers illustrate Bellevue's success in spurring development and Seattle's continued slump. Story: www.theurbanist.org/bellevue-per...

Sound Transit is going to install fare gates at over a dozen stations. Fine, whatever. But the agency also loses a lot of money due to people not paying their car tabs every year. Does anyone know how much ST is estimated to lose each year to car tab nonrenewal?

Thinking about how King County Metro is adding four hundred bus trips tomorrow compared to the week prior and FIVE HUNDRED trips on Sunday. It's going to take a lot of work to maintain those service levels into the future, but it's been awesome watching Metro embrace the idea of an all-week network.

I am told SDOT will be releasing its Shared Streets criteria and list "in the next few weeks." It sounds like they will be taking a conservative approach and designating streets that are already designed for 10 mph or easily converted.

I'm excited more and more transit agencies are getting clued into the hack to increase ridership that is "stop treating riders on nights and weekends like dirt."

Bit of a long thread here, but the main point: SPOG is going to do everything they can to destroy Mayor Wilson anyway. There's absolutely no reason for her to lie to trans people on behalf of the new interim SPD chief.

Erica C. Barnett@ericacbarnett.bsky.social

Seattle Gay New reported today that at a meeting of the LGBTQ Commission on Thursday, Mayor Katie Wilson's office told them I was writing about a complaint the interim police chief filed against a detective, and that the complaint alleged she had said she worked for SPD or was representing them./1

this is one of the craziest things i've ever heard said

The moderator launches into a mini-lecture. Says restricting cars eliminates the “sense of theater, mystery and surprise…the visual and aural stimulation” that makes the market special.

Keeping the Market opened to pedestrians only without cars polls at 98% favorability. If she wants to fix those poll numbers it would be an easy win to tell SDOT and the Pike Place Market PDA they will not be ending it this Fall
