What game are you looking most forward to this season? For me it's the 11/13 game between West Florida and Cleveland State in Huntsville, Alabama.

Assuming the Brewers close this out, 2026 will be the first time since 1986 that the team with the better record wins every playoff series, and just the fifth time it's happened in the division era (1969- ).

How much are power-conference teams paying their 🏀 rosters in 2026? We spent a month talking to 100-plus sources, and we didn't rely on just the coaches for this info. ADs, GMs and even third-party consultants, too. All 80 high-major programs split into seven spending tiers. A CBS Sports exclusive:

So far, across 99 exhibition games, MBB teams have taken 42.5%(!) of their shots from 3, up from 40.8% in 114 games last year.

that hit had a launch angle of 49 degrees and exit velocity of 105mph and in the statcast era that has never once resulted in a home run Exit Velocity: 105 MPH, Launch Angle: 49° BA: .037 1B%: 0.0 2B%: 3.7 3B%: 0.0 HR %: 0.0

There has to be some genius out there that can definitively figure this out based where the kick landed in the crowd

dude I think that Virginia Tech kick was good

The expert (to me at least) has weighed in and has a good explanation for how NBC's "synced" overlay could have gotten unsynced

Alex Norris@alexnorris.com

When I watched the replay with the overlaid clock, the 1st and 10 lines were on there. They probably shouldn’t be in that case. I know nothing about NBC’s particular procedures, but on games I’ve done, recording both versions is common, since they can both be useful for different purposes.

Great stuff over at @kenpom.com. Coaching résumé pages now include overall record and NCAA Tournament record. Huzzah! Subscribing to Ken's site for $25/year remains the second-best deal in all of basketball media, only surpassed by subscribing to the Eye on CBB Podcast for $0.

Random nonsense, but these are the 23 active coaches who have not had a game against a non-D1 team, ordered by total games coached.

Our Candid Coaches series returns for 2026, and I'm starting it off with the hottest topic in college basketball. Should 2026 seniors be grandfathered into the five-in-five rule and be made eligible next season? Suffice to say, coaches are FIRED UP over this topic. Here's how they voted.

Time to go down the Kevin Maas wormhole

I know it's silly to play "on pace for" games, but Baez is 23 years old. If he has a 17 year career and reaches, say, 10,000 plate appearances, he is on pace to total 10,000 home runs.

I have a feeling there are going to be a lot of Bonke-heads this season

Rodger Sherman@rodger.bsky.social

Listening to @norlander.bsky.social and @kenpom.com podcast on the beach and they brought to my attention that Michigan State has a 7-foot-2 Dutch-Vanuatuan center named Anton Bonke who won several Oceania rowing championships representing his adopted homeland of Vanuatu

First cut of preseason conference ratings. Looking forward to seeing how people categorize the Pac-12. Not on the level of other power leagues but conceivably far ahead of all non-power leagues.

People are saying that was the best game played on American soil since Soccer Bowl '79

kenpom@kenpom.com

legit one of the greatest games in futbol history

I'll know bluesky has made it when someone breaks news like Fairfield going to the CAA here. For now, I suffer.

Program rankings have been updated. Notable changes: Texas State 215 -> 149 (simply for joining the Pac 12) Memphis 34 -> 42 Miami FL 47 -> 39 Miami OH 180 -> 160 Michigan 🏆 20 -> 13 John Groce is the only coach to willingly take a downgrade kenpom.com/programs.php

Not really interested in the De'Aaron Fox hot takes. More interested in: What should be Fox's confidence be that he'll make the layup in order to go for it? Layup better than free throws, no? Especially for not a great FT shooter.

Random research: From '97-'25 there were 17 teams that shot better than 60% on 2's (no more than 2 in any season). In '26 there were 8 such teams.

If you can co-opt the names of defunct conferences that produced multiple Final Four teams, then I'm not sure why the Southland is not rebranding to the Southwest Conference.

Sickos Committee@sickoscommittee.org

The MAAC Conference is rebranding as the Metro Conference.

Last night, De'Aaron Fox said that as good of a player Wemby is, he's a better person. An overused cliche that has no bounds on absurdity and in this case means Wemby is the best human on the planet. Like, Rick Steves move over.

Replying to @rodger.bsky.social

The Knicks have outscored their opponents by 212 points over that nine-game span. That's the highest such figure in NBA history over any nine-game span, regular season or postseason. The previous mark of 209 points was set by the Bucks from Nov. 28 to Dec. 16, 1973.
