Still working on the basics - Pod now "snaps" to ladders when you climb - Ladders belong to their own class - Added a wallslide state - Pod can jump out of a wallslide - Unfortunately, Pod's jump doesn't send them *away* from the wall and I can figure out why #gamedev #indiedev #godot

Every once in a while I dare to turn my head slightly to the left or to the right and my body says "hey you're almost 40, this is going to really hurt"

A bunch of stuff - Fixed platform collision - Added "ladders" (needs to be a nine slice but also a sprite, godot doesn't handle that natively) - Added climbing function - Added invisible one-way platform to top of ladder so you can stand on them #gamedev #indiedev #godot

seriously, you can make a nine-slice for a control node, or you can make a sprite2D. Either I gotta figure out a way to mix and match, make ladders entirely control nodes, or get a plug-in to make sprites nine-slice.

It's always someone else's idea, quickly and cheaply cloned. I'm sick to my eyeballs of endless AI anomaly hunt games. If AI is enabling something fresh, enabling new concepts and ideas, then I haven't seen it because that tiny spark of creativity is being drowned out by an endless ocean of slop.

Writing progress: Oh, this section is 3000 words. It's too long. I found an entire section of hundreds of words that it all padding. I'll cut that. And just quick edit the bits around it, and...... 3400 words repeat ad infinitum

This thread full of good stuff. I'll add neurodivergent/queer awareness and labeling. Understanding sexuality or autism wasn't nonexistent in the 80s/90s but it was nothing compared to today. I wish I knew in 1995 what we know in 2025.

Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

This one-way platform collision issue is driving me nuts. I'm still colliding from the side! I fear I'm too much of a newbie to understand why. All I did was check the "one-way" collision box. There's no other code. #gamedev #indiedev #godot

Spent like an hour trying to get a one-way collision thing to work in #godot because the built-in one-way collision function still allows collision from the side. Still haven't fixed it.

It's fun trying to write a scene with the equivalent of late 30th century tech that I don't understand, being described to 21st century readers, featuring 19th/20th century characters trying to understand it. Not confusing at all

So there's like 3 layers of obfuscation on every line of dialogue, plus an added challenge of making sure that, from a storytelling point of view, everything keeps moving and future events are properly set up.

No, but seriously, I am trying to write about the concept of a Server, like for computers. Of course *I* know what that is, but would a person from 1899 know that? Maybe if you explained it. Or maybe they'd get a completely wrong idea. And heck, I barely understand it.

Except, the word "server" is already old-fashioned in this universe. The 30th century version of that describes something else that even I can't possibly understand, so the tech cannot just be doing what servers do today, but faster/better. I would expect 30th century computing to be different.

Bunch of little things tonight - Kicks now go the right direction - Pod "hangs" in the air after stomping - Stomps and kicks attached to markers, not using magic numbers - Pod's deceleration faster on ground than in air - Kicks don't dead stop Pod, but start deceleration #gamedev #indiedev #godot

Another aspect of "billionaires shouldn't exist" is that being a billionaire provides no personal satisfaction. All his money hasn't made him capable of feeling good about what he does with his life and he will lash out at anyone who reminds him of this.

So we fly a pride flag in our front yard in a very conservative neighborhood and it’s been there for the last few years. Someone put this in our mailbox and my goodness…

Been a while since I worked on this. Got a functioning double jump. Using a state machine to control it instead of nested control flow statements is *way* simpler. One line, no new variables. #gamedev #indiedev #godot

This version doesn't need to track whether you've jumped or are allowed to or anything like that. Just track what state you're in and what state you came from. If you are in the falling state, you can double jump *unless* the previous state was also the double jump.

If this is true (and it isn't) that would mean AI models are extremely lightweight and do not need data centers to run. It would also mean AI models are functionally identical to computer viruses, meaning AI companies should be shut down and their assets seized.

I love tumblr because it gives you the funniest memes and posts and the worst/stupidest political opinions you have ever heard, all posted within 45 seconds of each other from the same url

Not a huge fan of YouTube's new algorithm where, if you watch any video, your home page turns into *only* that video. I watched like two videos of someone playing SM64 hacks and now that's my *entire* home page. All from the same guy.

Downloaded Ultimate Doom Builder the other night This was made in about 90 minutes. I think it's pretty ok for a newbie

Here is my pitch for anyone who has worries about rail: I think that building out rail is a necessary (but not sufficient) step in transforming American cities from totally car dependent to slightly walkable, in a way that no other form of transit is.

I GOT TO VOTE FOR TRAINS! Fuck yeah Front Range Passenger Rail!
