One of the most salient aspects of today's politics is how everyone imagines a conspiratorial "them" controlling things behind the scenes. Elon Musk is literally powerful enough to affect the course of the Ukraine war, but he's still imagining faceless puppet masters who need to be unmasked.

Man, imagine you're minding your own business, getting kind of drunk with your friends at a picturesque brewery in Maine, when suddenly John Roberts walks by and you get to start heckling him. Must have felt incredible. That's the dream. www.nytimes.com/2026/10/01/u...

It’s very 2026 that the Jets and Giants have a cheap field that takes out players they’re paying hundreds of millions of dollars to. Savings!

Is asking someone to leave the beverages at home for an interview as fussy as reminding a lady to wear pantyhose or a gentleman to ask before lighting a cigarette? We assembled a team of Post staffers across the newsroom — and commenters — to find out: https://wapo.st/4dwx0LS

He knows this is hypocrisy. What's more, he fucking LOVES that it is hypocrisy. He knows how mad it'll make all the libs, and how worked up they'll get pointing out the hypocrisy. I'm just... so fucking tired of a government comprised entirely of trolls.

JD Vance: "When you have people who say 'my ethnic group deserves something, and yours doesn't,' or 'that ethnic group is good and this other ethnic group is bad,' that is how you erode the very foundations of commonality."

In the american context communism is mostly unrelated to economics. Any progressive redistributive policy is communism, as is any egalitarianism of race, gender, or sexual orientation. Integration is communism, women in the workplace is communism, marriage equality is communism. It's deeply stupid.

Talarico’s argument is simple: Stop treating marijuana like a crime. Legalize it. Regulate it. Tax it. Stop wasting police resources on low-level marijuana offenses. Clear the records of people whose lives have been derailed by nonviolent marijuana convictions.

interesting to me that as the administration treats democratic-voting states like conquered or occupied territories, you don’t have pundits demanding the president respect “half the country”

Fair to ask what GOP Party Obama is referring to - the one that fought the new deal, the one that did McCarthyism, the one that fought the great society, the one that gutted the social safety net under Reagan, the one that Newt led during the Clinton impeachment, or the bush II of war crimes fame

Facebook launched 22 years ago this week. In 2025, Meta paid an effective federal tax rate of 3.5% — its lowest on record. Meanwhile, Meta is pumping at least $65 million into super PACs to stifle regulation of AI and tech. Trickle-down economics isn't just a hoax, it's corrosive to democracy.
