In 2005, Time Magazine did a cover story on “The Battle Over Gay Teens.” It’s the same handwringing we see now from “concerned” adults on behalf of young people. “Kids are disclosing their homosexuality with unprecedented regularity–and they are doing so much younger.” time.com/archive/6596...

Josh Turek of Iowa, Democrat, comes out with one of the worst anti-trans ads yet. Not only is it an anti-sports ad, it proposes a ban on federal funding for gender affirming care. That would hit all medicaid and medicare patients, and any ACA federally-subsidized plans as well. Horrific.

Microsoft literally told fragile white guys to use AI to compete with Black co-workers.

KetAnthropic JoshAI@ketanjoshi.co

The first genuinely honest ad for generative AI I've ever seen, from Microsoft / CoPilot A mediocre white guy sees his non-white colleague getting praised for good work, he asks AI to *literally copy it*, and then he gets all the praise instead: www.ispot.tv/ad/SoDi/micr...

I know that times seem uniquely terrible for white folks, but living down the road from Selma is a constant reminder that this is just America happening to me for the first time, and other people have fought harder against worse with less, so what am I going to do? Give up like a loser?

I just gave this advice to a friend and I'll share it here too. There are two fundamental types of people in this world: Those who go through life dreading being at the mercy of people like themselves and those who go through life hoping they are. Make your life goal to be one of the latter.

Raise your boys to be the ones who yell absofuckingloutely not when they see a man spike a woman’s drink. Tell them about what happened at Cornell and their job is to disrupt the group chat and call the police. Teach them that this is what being a man looks like.

Rumors about “rigged elections" are now a fixture of U.S. elections, leading to diminished trust in election results & democracy (broadly). These rumors can sometimes be hard to debunk, esp. in their early stages. Our UW team has identified the 6 common ways that election integrity rumors mislead:

Let's remember. There are those here in RI who'd rather go back to 1963 to avoid sharing our futures together. They aren't shy. Tune into RI talk radio to hear them tomorrow. We are bringing transparency to RI. Join us, support us. Keep the faith.

Four little girls died that day in Birmingham, but actually 6 children were killed. After the 16th Street Baptist church was bombed on this day in 1963, the city of Birmingham naturally faced unrest. 16yr old Johnny Robinson was shot by police, & 13yr old Virgil Ware killed by a white teenager

This whole thread is great and this especially. No matter what happens in the midterms, I am still going to make phone calls the next day. I am still going to send emails and attend social justice gatherings and protests because this is the work of a lifetime, not one day.

I like this thread a great deal but this is the real gem Siblings, not twins It feels like it rhymes with "workers are made of clay, not glass" We need to develop the skills and, dare I say it, distress tolerance necessary to disagree productively, to push buttons without hurling accusations.

Where No Kings thrives is not in the adamant devotion of those who participate and make it into what they need it to be. It is in the spaces where people acknowledge their experiences are different and let them all coexist, understanding solidarity movements are siblings, not twins.

We talk a lot about books that were formative in our childhoods and young adulthoods, but we never actually stop forming ourselves, so what are some books that were formative in your post-college adulthood?

Mantel showed me that I could still lose myself in a book. MJW taught me tarot. Wilkerson taught me that a book can be both accurate and moving. Wizenberg helped me discover new aspects of myself. Traister explained my life to me in a way that gave it new meaning. 1/2

One of the things about driving regular routes is that you get complacent. You forget to look for the person crossing when you make a left. You're in a rush to get to your destination. Slow down. Take your time. Really look.

Denverite@denverite.bsky.social

A word from Denverite reporter Kyle Harris to drivers as kids go back to school: "Slow down. Quit running stop signs. Get off your phone. Don’t rush. Follow basic laws. "
