It’s sad to see Deno being discontinued. However, I think it’s not all terrible. Deno pushed server side JS forward for everyone - Node copied many the standout features Deno had at launch in 2020, bringing them to the masses. Fetch, web sockets, web crypto, direct TypeScript execution, and more. 🫑

I worked on this! Try it out and let us know what you think. Railway o11y is going to get so many more goodies this quarter!

It's a bad day to be a slow (or broken) request πŸ” Tracing is now in preview. You or your agent can follow any request end to end, pinpoint what's slow or failing, and fix it Opt in, then set it up from the Traces tab railway.com/account/feature-flags

To fellow railway nerds: I am told there is an overhead wire break somewhere between Rheine and Amersfoort. However, neither DB or NS have it in their map of track issues, so I can’t tell where. Does anyone know where the break actually is? Is it in Germany or the Netherlands?

bit of an update, it's been a few months now since I parted ways with Deno, and I'm starting to actively look for jobs again! I'm pretty good with big systems, compilers, and embedded. especially if rust or elixir are involved :)

This is the single biggest reason why I am unable to use Firefox everywhere. With Chrome I can bootstrap my password manager on a new device by scanning a QR code for a passkey. On Firefox I have to manually type a random 32 char string from my phone. That adds so much friction that I just don't.

Blame me for all the new o11y stuff!

Earlier I explained how the European Commission's proposals on rail ticketing are both radical and, in their current form, unworkable Now I have started to work out what Parliament and Council would have to do to make things more workable from here #PassengerPackage jonworth.eu/how-to-make-...

Luca Casonato πŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆ reposted

We are working on a detailed summary of what the EU's proposal contains and what that means for passengers. But, here is the short version: The commission has good intentions but their plan falls woefully short. Making rights contingent on how and where you bought your tickets is not good enough.

/end Have you had experiences like this with other European operators? I'd love to hear them. I am also happy to help you if you are still waiting on money back. Sueing train companies in Europe is fun and easy! Just email me. I'll also be at epf.eu Conference on June 5th/6th 2026 to chat :)

Update on @nicr.dev's and my lawsuit against NMBS πŸš† In an overwhelming victory, the judge ruled today that NMBS illegally denied our reimbursement claim, and must reimburse us in full + cover full procedural costs. The court followed our reasoning completely, and dismissed all points NMBS made. πŸŽ‰

I sued three different European rail companies today, in two separate cases. One case is for violations of my rail passenger rights in case of disruption, and the other one for overcharging me on a trip (and then refusing to refund me what they overcharged me). Fun times ahead 😌

They also said that this is my fault, because if only I had gone to the station in Maastricht, I would have surely gotten help. This is after I wrote (and they clearly didn't read), that I did go to the station, where I was scolded out for trying to take a train while striking, which is why I called

They also tried to say that because I was physically in the Netherlands, anything that any NMBS staff tells me while there is not legally binding because the train runs under an NS safety license between Maastricht and Eijsden.

This is additionally absurd because between those two stations, only NMBS conductors are aboard the train. For anyone who will ever get fined between these stations by an NMBS conductor, just tell them that their head of legal said they have no legal basis while physically in the Netherlands :)

The judge followed my legal reasoning to the tee, and dismissed all points NMBS made. NMBS spent significant legal resources in an attempt to mislead the court with false statements about the law, me, and their train operations. Shame on them.

Some highlights: NMBS made the totally absurd claim that this train, in Arriva livery, staffed by Arriva drivers between Aachen and Maastricht, is exclusively operated by NS and NMBS, and Arriva is not involved in operations or ticket sales at all. This is just plain wrong.

- I called them to ask whether I could organize my own alternative, because they hadn't not going to organize anything. - They agreed to this, and gave me the URL to the page to submit the claim. - We researched the cheapest alternative, which in this case was a 120 EUR taxi (train via DE was 130).

- I submitted a claim the same day to get my taxi reimbursed. - They denied the claim (and we went back and forth a bit). - We sued them. - NMBS kept denying everything. - 6 months later, the judge saw right thru their lies and ruled in our favor, awarding us full compensation + court costs.

The details of the case were as follows: - We booked a train from Maastricht (NL) to Liege (BE) on 27 february 2025 (12.20 EUR). - This train was cancelled because NMBS didn't pay they employees enough, so they went on strike (good!) - NMBS did not proactively offer an alternative for re-routing.

Yesterday was my last day at Deno. I'm sad to leave but I'm proud of everything the team and I were able to build. I'm glad I had the opportunity to work with some of the most talented people I've met. I wish them all the best! I'm actively looking for my next challenge, my DMs are open!

Yesterday was my last day at Deno. From today, I'll be cheering the talented team on from outside the org. This also means that I'm now considering my next move in the DX/DevRel/Technical marketing space.

Personal update: I resigned from Deno two weeks ago. Yesterday was my last day at Deno. Working on Deno, Deno Deploy, JSR, and Fresh with my world class colleagues has been an absolute honor. I wish everyone who I have worked with at Deno the absolute best - continue building groundbreaking things!

Jason Williams@jason-williams.co.uk

Temporal is now Stage 4 at TC39 πŸŽ‚πŸŽ‚πŸŽ‚ Thanks to all the other champions of JavaScript's new date-time API. It has been a wild ride over many years! I wrote a blog post explaining how we got here πŸ“œ bloomberg.github.io/js-blog/post...

I've wanted this for so long - and @kettmeir.dev has finally implemented it! View changes in the public API of packages between versions: - what methods were added, changed (type signature), or removed In the future we could even indicate if you are about to publish a breaking change

JSR@jsr.io

JSR now lets you diff the generated documentation between released versions of a package, making it easy and clear what has changed in a visual manner! Example: jsr.io/@david/gagen...
