California should choose the sun. @xavierbecerra.bsky.social has proposed Power Hour, providing two free hours of electricity to households in the middle of the day. Wrote about how this would benefit California families and our grid for @latimes.com. ☀️⬇️

latimes.comContributor: Becerra's plan for free midday electricity would be a leap forwardBut the idea could be undercut before it even takes effect if California’s utilities commission raises every household's fixed charges.

Oregon is home to a robust manufacturing sector, producing everything from paper products to frozen french fries. It also has one of the cleanest electric grids in the country, which puts Oregon in a unique position to lead on industrial electrification. 🧵

"Every year that we wait and don’t remove pollution from communities, that is costing people in their lives. And so speed is a progressive value in my book. I think we have to build institutions that can move a lot faster." So great to record w/ @volts.wtf live at Town Hall Seattle. Check it out!

Today on Volts: On Sep. 14, at Seattle's Town Hall, I spoke with policy wonk @leahstokes.bsky.social about her new book The Carbon Wave, which weaves together the story of the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act with her personal story of a risky pregnancy. It's a page-turner! We had a blast.

Pundits have deemed climate an election loser for Democrats, but evidence suggests otherwise. Tune in to hear my interview and learn why climate is still very much on the ballot for the 2026 midterms. ⬇️

My book, *The Carbon Wave*, is the #1 new release in Environmental Policy! Thanks to everyone who has picked up a copy so far. My deepest hope is that this book will catalyze a lot of new climate action, so thanks for sharing it with others. Really appreciate all the support!

To Leah's point, I've yet to see any evidence that AI is pulling down mountains. www.nytimes.com/2026/08/29/o...

“Unlike A.I., climate change’s existential threat is not hypothetical. It is killing people now." Amidst the AI-pocalypse, we can't lose sight of the climate crisis and the urgency of electrification. Gift link! shorturl.at/On4Jk

EVs are awesome. I have a Hyundai Ioniq 5, which has a range of 300-350 miles. I charge it at home, which is convenient, and it costs me about $10 to completely recharge the battery. (84 kWh at 12 cents a kWh) Compare that to a similar size gas car, at 25-30 mpg, which would cost $54 to fill up.

The Trump administration on Monday finalized new lower vehicle fuel economy standards, in the latest effort to make it easier for automakers to sell gas-powered vehicles and to reverse a push by the Biden administration to force automakers to build more fuel-efficient vehicles.

Thank you everyone who shared news from NYCW. I stayed home and read books including “The Carbon Wave” by @leahstokes.bsky.social, which is a fantastic page-turner, insider tell-all, legislative history, memoir and blueprint for climate policymakers next time around! legal-planet.org/2026/09/24/i...

While kids were stuck in classrooms that reached 91.9°, Gavin Newsom was busy ripping away their funding for AC to give it to a fossil fuel company. That's not climate leadership. It's just shameful. I'm optimistic that future Governor Becerra will fix this. www.independent.com/2026/09/17/t...

Not sure people understand how bad El Niño already is. In Southern California today, we had an offshore pacific hurricane (not normal) take out homes and beaches. We had temperatures topping 111°F with high humidity. There's a fire in LA. And we are just getting started with El Niño.
