Well, well, well…. An analysis of voter registration records reveals Republican operative Scott Presler had 3 out-of-state voters use his Pennsylvania address to vote in the 2024 election. This is what voter fraud looks like.

"The list of operational failures could go on. The point is that, for all his money and bloodthirsty ambition, Luckey is probably the last guy you want overseeing your high-school robotics team — let alone a first-of-its-kind biotech company dedicated to breeding mutant wardogs."

A very vocal subset of leftists has argued, in every election since 2016, that people who want more progressive policy should withhold their votes from Democrats. Such people do not have your best interests at heart. Or even their own. Vote blue and ignore anyone who tells you not to.

The lady's name is Deb and she owns a bar in Brooklyn!

katienowak.bsky.social@katienowak.bsky.social

This is Deb! She is the owner of my favorite neighborhood bar in Bed-Stuy, it’s called Confessions. Bring her some business and good vibes if you live in Brooklyn!

You need this this morning, you really do.

holy smokes, conan strikes up a chat with a random lady on the subway and she immediately starts riffing on his level, no problem.

Digging through the series so I can determine how old a character would be in Chaos and am reminded once again that EXACT NUMBERS ARE BAD. Found a different oopsie along the way. A throwaway line. It will get fixed eventually.

The tragedy of the boom and bust cycle is that you are not allowed to say "this is a boom and bust cycle" during the boom part, even if it is obvious. Meanwhile the people who were saying "this boom will last forever" will now smoothly pivot to "the bubble has popped, like I always said it would"

When Grammy-winning musician Rhiannon Giddens begins playing “Old Corn Liquor,” a traditional Black American folk tune, acclaimed Chinese pipa virtuoso Wu Man recognizes similarities to Chinese pentatonic music and spontaneously joins in. The joy on their faces says it all.

I think it’s even worse than this. This often means, “after I deduct expenditures *and savings* from my cash flow, my cash flow is net zero.”

Ned Resnikoff@resnikoff.bsky.social

I think the real finding from surveys like this is that a lot of self-pitying rich people don't know what "paycheck to paycheck" means. If you are spending hundreds of thousands of dollars annually on voluntary expenditures like prep school tuition, you don't count. finance.yahoo.com/economy/arti...

Someone just left this sweet kitten on my doorstep, but I'm allergic! 😭 Does anyone in Brooklyn want to foster a kitten? Seems to be about 4 months old, clean and well-cared for, and very docile.

The “mass shooting” in Erie, PA was in fact a family annihilation event. A 45-year-old man with a registered firearm killed his entire family, including babies and a pregnant woman.

In light of some magazines pulling scummy things on creators lately, I’m doing a little thread on short story rights. I don't want anybody getting taken advantage of. Also, if you're new, this stuff can be confusing!

“She asked the powers at NASA to let her add a safeguard to prevent that error in a real flight, and they laughed it off as too unlikely… When an astronaut did make that blooper during the Apollo 8 mission, it caused necessary navigational data to vanish, and they called Hamilton in to get it back.”

i was fortunate enough to profile Margaret Hamilton in 2019. A really kind and curious person. This was my favorite story she told me:

I retweeted it earlier, but realised a bit of quote context might be useful: Excellent comedian (have seen/listened before!) and well worth an evening of your life! National tour, and tour dates are on her site.

Rachel Parris@rachelparris.bsky.social

Hey folks. In total honesty my tour is NOT selling well. I’ve sold 30 tickets in a 400 seater in Birmingham, and not much more elsewhere. If you like musical comedy, if you like standup, then please come see my show! And spread the word! The Rachel Parris Songbook tour starts in Nov! Link in bio! 🎶

Interesting case of fraud by making automated songs then automated accounts to stream them, pocketing $8M in revenue. Few/no real listeners were diverted to listen to the GenAI songs, but the funds he pocketed drank from a zero sum revenue pool that meant real musicians were paid less.

I'm sooooo tired of people acting like politics is this thing that is external to us that we can, somehow, opt out of. Literally everything is political and politics is an extension of who we are as well as the mechanism through which we create society based on who we are and what we value.

Tying health insurance to employment makes workers easier to exploit, bc when you get fired you don’t just lose your job, you might also die or go bankrupt…

BOOK DAY!! Yes, #Booksky and #WriterSky, it's HORNGARD's BookDay AND my proof that it's possible to come back from a serious cumulative-over-time-multiple-concussion traumatic brain injury. So many decisions long before (and not counting the bad ones that ensured injuries) made recovery possible.
