I suddenly randomly remembered that back on Twitter I thought it was funny to talk about his name being short for “elongated muskrat,” which it was, but wow, those were more innocent days

And now back to my full time job, texting the word "stop" to every living Democrat.

I’m more upset than necessary about the Marissa Mayer AI thing. I could literally point at -*any random little girl* and say, I sense that she’s empathetic! Creative! and loves animals! And win the lottery. What kind of person would tell this story out loud??

When you travel to another country, the phone miraculously allows you to easily find your way around & translate foreign languages, including ones on signs

Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

I mean this in the best way possible but it is genuinely bewildering to watch large swaths of the internet have complex and well-considered thoughts about a provocative three-hour documentary

Pretty nearly the whole actual point of getting white college students to go to Mississsippi for Freedom Summer was to draw national media attention

"The Jews who went to Mississippi didn't take selfies and post tweets." Okay, but honestly, if tweets had been a thing in 1961, many of them probably would have done.

This could be turned into a movie and just as easily be a comedy as a tragedy as a thriller.

I've mentioned before I've updated my contracts to make sure everything in the production of my books is done by humans and not "AI"; if you're wondering what such a thing looks like, here's a clause covering that from a recent contract.

We went deep on the making of You Can See Everything—how a certain actress got involved, how the shower scene happened, and how embedding with Elizabeth Holmes forced him to find a new way of working. The phrase they keep using, “suicidal empathy,” means they believe those who help vulnerable people are actually dangerous. “Suicidal empathy” means maintaining vulnerable people is like failing to prune a plant: only by excising the sick parts can the whole plant thrive.

Does it make sense to deport a man who overstayed a visa but otherwise has no criminal record when his deportation means shutting down a food pantry that serves meals to 7,000-8,000 needy people a month? Does choosing not to exercise discretion in his case make America greater?

I once did a book event with Leslie Stahl, in the midst of Trump 1 — I was filling in for a friend, and we each did 10-minute segments and answered questions. The audience was full of worried middle-aged white/Jewish lefty Democrats, mostly female, like a lot of similar book events in NY

Just as it had in DC after Nixon left and things would snap back to normal. I was skeptical of this idea & I remember thinking I should remember it, bc I thought she was being naïve & she clearly thought the room were the naïve ones & I wondered who was right

I don’t know why she’s staying at 60 Minutes — I imagine she’s decided that it’s the moral, adult choice, to use her star status to keep the institution alive and the reporting aboveboard and wait for the fever to break — but it doesn’t feel like the right move to me, now, either

And they clearly wanted her to share their apprehension about what was happening. She seemed a bit thrown by their doomy mood & laughed when they said they all watched MSNBC. She told us that she’d been thru the Nixon era & none of this was new—after Trump left office, the fever would break…

This is how cowards behave. Trump does it too--docile in a meeting then brags publicly on social that he let the other guy--who was 'dishonest, totally horrible to me' or whatever--have it

The phrase "tactful fabulism" is a wonderful way of describing someone who is cordial at a meeting, but then recalls it as subject to violent disagreement and threats to his businesses. This is something Andreessen has done throughout his career.

so restricting Ukraine's Starlink was Musk's idea, but after Moscow took advantage he became "alarmed about the possibility of adverse consumer reaction in Europe" to the "night of carnage" and denied responsibility I mean, it sounds like typical Elon

As much as it is cool to get a high-quality network show with an old-fashioned 20th-century 20 episode order, this show would’ve benefited from a streaming-style, double pump two episode premiere

The second CUPERTINO episode really gets cooking, now that most of the premiere's set-up is out of the way. The legal stuff is snappier, the new recurring characters are fun/intriguing, and the scope of what Michael and Olivia are attempting becomes clearer. www.vulture.com/article/cupe...

It's not "strikingly juvenile" and it's not a "personal broadside." It's hate speech. The Vice President is trying to get people to vote against a Democrat by implying that he's gay and/or a pedophile and/or a fetishist. Take it seriously. It is on a par with every other kind of hate speech.
