Liberal, woke, SoCal native. Raised Catholic, now atheist, cuz nothing kills religion faster than study of religion. I have one simple goal: to outlive fascism in my country.

My Youtube algorithm hates me so all I've been getting lately are window-smashing traffic stops and airport drunks. Here's what I learned: People of the world - you're morons. Airports of the world - stop selling alcohol to morons! {sigh. I think my algorithm is gate-keeping Pedro Pascal from me.}

The best thing about mail-in voting is when people call with "I'd like to tell you about [insert candidate/ballot proposition]" and I can cut them right off with "Sorry, I've already voted." Took the week-end, did my research, filled out the ballot. Dropped it off yesterday at the library. Done.👍🏻

How long does it take, realistically, for a new word to become accepted as just a normal part of English? "Well... he did yeet one... but in his defense, she did deserve it." (talking about farm-raised chickens) "Yeet." 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Every damn time.

This is the lie Mother Nature tells us here in Southern California in September. It's cool, slightly cloudy. "Fall is here!" Uh... nope. It'll be back in the 90s in a week or so, maybe with some added Santa Ana winds. "Fire Season" we used to call it (before January 2025.) Don't let her fool you!

oh your entire industry is crumbling because of externalities outside your control? Have you thought of starting a patreon so that you have to do a bunch of extra work on top of that?

Max is now a Cat Detective. (I was RIGHT to let him watch that movie!) We have a leak in the condensate line. Easy-ish fix but there's quite a bit of water in there. He heard the dripping, I didn't. (We were just hoping he wasn't hanging around because there was an animal in there so... bonus!)

Street corn! I'm obsessed with the corn at Brick & Flour in Glendale. I think it's close. I just can't get the queso fresco to stick to the mayo. It's the "crumbling cheese" but... I'm forced to eat standing at the counter, piling the cheese back on as it falls. And I'm okay with that. Yum!!!!!

Absolutely agree!

Well, we are already prosecuting the parents of mass-shooters who gave their kid the murder weapon. If a rogue AI commits crimes using its creator's resources, the company that made and irresponsibly enabled it should definitely be held accountable.

Okay.

#30million8/30 If we do not assemble a massive march we will appear weak. 30 million marching on August 30th. I am not seeking likes. You need to repost this. I cannot make this happen by myself. It requires all of us to participate.

The knowledge of how many innocents’ deaths he is directly responsible for is clearly tormenting Musk psychologically, and I think he should be confronted with it roothlessly at every opportunity until he has a psychological break like the guy in The Tell-Tale Heart.

This post is unavailable.

I think I've found some of Europe's cooler air. It's been hanging around Southern California the last week or so. July 1st and we've still got "June Gloom." Not complaining, mind you! Not in a hurry to send it home. Just... making it feel welcome.

One congressional Republican tells me: “Conservatives on the Hill are stunned that Vance would erase all of Trump’s military victories in such a terrible deal. Trump effectively won the war and at the 11th hour Vance is negotiating his way to a loss.”-NewsNation

We could ALL use a break.

I had the opportunity to confront Pete Hegseth's bigoted spiritual mentor, Pastor Doug Wilson, and call him out on his history of hate, his misreading of the Bible, his hijacking of Jesus, and his cosplay Crusading. It was worth it.

I could solve this whole California drought thing. Just pay me to paint my courtyard and the rains will come! I've tried several times. We had zero rain all March. Yesterday was beautiful and sunny, forecast some clouds but no rain. Still, I only painted a small patch. A test. Fate said "Hah!"

Not to brag but this was my sign at the first #NoKings march

Francis Wilkinson @franciswilkinson.bsky.social

His removal from office must be a constant demand of Dems in Congress and No Kings in the streets. One consequence of that relentless demand will be perpetual relitigation of his spectacular clusterfuck of failure in all its pathological dimensions.

Who do you think these folks will be voting for in the primary? Sincerely wondering!

Rebecca Spang@rlspang.bsky.social

Official population of Ellsworth is 8,300. So this is roughly 1/8 or 12.5% of the population

I'll be at a No Kings protest rally in Riverside, CA this coming Saturday. I'll be meeting my niece and her daughter (if she can get off work.) I know it seems pointless sometimes, but it's something I want to be part of. Which protest are you going to and who are you bringing/meeting?

Russia is giving intelligence to Iran, to help it target Americans in the Middle East. And President Donald J. Trump is rewarding Russia by easing restrictions on the sale of its oil. Is this not "giving aid and comfort to the enemy"? IS THIS NOT THE VERY DEFINITION OF TREASON?

Everywhere I go today on this Day of the Great Leap Forward I expect to hear "Congratulations!' and "You did it!" and "Wow! You're not an hour late!" Because, yes, last night before I went to bed I set all the clocks ahead approximately one hour. I expect big props for that.

THREAD: I got laid off from NYMag/Vulture after 14 years. The family lost 75% of income + medical. Now mzs.press bookstore, once a side project. is do-or-die for Judith & I. I feel weird telling you this because others are doing much worse. But if you could like or share this, we'd be so grateful!
