I got in trouble for the same reason. I wrote a story that ended with a dog peeing on a bomb left at an empty baseball field after it failed to go off, which then blew up I was in 7th grade and didn't even think about Columbine. But my teacher decided I was trying to kill everyone. With my dog bomb

Meta hit with its BIGGEST FINE EVER → A fine bigger than some countries GDP! 🤯 A judge in New Mexico has ordered Zuck's Meta to pay $25 BILLION after a trial found it had lied to the public about how user data was handled. It's great to see that New Mexico is holding Big Tech accountable. 👏

The 2026 Trilogies @storybundle.bsky.social is out now! 💜 27 DRM-free ebooks of 9 trilogies by Kuzhali Manickavel, Ian Whates, Rakesh Khanna, Adam-Troy Castro, K. Eason, Mark Stay, Yudhanjaya Wijeratne, Ellen Datlow, and James P. Blaylock - and one ebook by Lavie Tidhar. Storybundle.com/trilogies

Incidentally (and only somewhat self-servingly) an exception is @vallescurarule.bsky.social's epic and in-depth review of Fermi's Wake in this March's issue of Interzone. Aside from what he says about my work (he likes it) it really shows what a book review *can* be. interzone.press/iz-304/

I think at least part of this comes down to stagnant/declining per word rates, and that reading is a time and labour intensive activity. Reading an entire novel for a piece of work that might not pay more than £150 is not a sustainable business.

This is the essential point! If we expect someone to 'do the work' of reading and reviewing a book, we should expect them to be paid properly for that work. And this goes for so much other underpaid work out there.

There was a guy last year who came to my table and bought a copy of "Under Pressure" because he saw the review on @brokenfrontier.bsky.social and, quoting: "they are never wrong". This is definitely one of the books I am most excited to get at @thoughtbubbleuk.bsky.social this year.

As far as I can tell, the first thing anyone uses an AI for in Neuromancer is summarizing a bunch of documents no one wants to read. Prescient as always!

Tolkien-posting continues with the penultimate section of The Return of the King. Mostly this is me griping about the Faramir/Éowyn scenes and then being desperately sad about *waves hands generally at the whole book*.

The noon-bell rings. A silence. Frodo speaks. ‘I will take the Ring, though I do not know the way.’ Elrond answers, ‘If you do not find a way, no one will. This is the hour of the Shire-folk, when they arise from their quiet fields to shake the towers and counsels of the Great.’

Elrond cautions Frodo that, ‘It is a heavy burden. But if you take it freely, I will say that your choice is right; and though all the mighty elf-friends of old, Hador, and Húrin, and Túrin, and Beren himself were assembled together, your seat should be among them.’

the better this software is at doing what people expect it to the more trust they put in it and the easier it is for that kind of shit to get by. if we keep focusing on expecting the threat to be "hallucinations" (it is shitty to call them that) we are going to miss this shit completely
