In spite of being of the correct generation to have grown up while "Peanuts" was still in active publication, it's always a little surreal to be reminded that the most popular comic strip in the English-speaking world for fifty solid years was about an eight-year-old with clinical depression.

In Daoist astrology, autumn is the time of the White Tiger of the West and the element of metal. It represents a movement inward, a time to reflect, to grieve, and to celebrate the good things life brings, in preparation for the harsh truths of winter. #WyrdWednesday

Probably because of this particular moment in my life, I have been struck by this image about 9/11. I was a trenager when it happened and I indeed was being raised like History has ended and the future would have been a peacefull and radiant time, founded on democracy and freedom. What an irony.

War as a moral metaphor is limited, limiting, and dangerous. By reducing the choices of action to โ€œa war againstโ€ whatever-it-is, you divide the world into Me or Us (good) and Them or It (bad) and reduce the ethical complexity and moral richness of our life to Yes/No, On/Off.

Grigori Kozintsevโ€™s Hamlet (1964) boasts the greatest depiction of the Ghost Iโ€™ve seen, on screen or stage. A disembodied suit of armor moving like slow-motion clockwork, billowing cape rolling and rippling like the black ocean or the rumbling storm clouds overhead, wheezing with a dead whisper.

This is where I live - the Marshwood Vale here in Dorset, England. No snow today but a frost that's permeated my toes. 'In the Bleak Midwinter'. A poem by the English poet Christina Rossetti. Published as 'A Christmas Carol' in 1872. Beautiful words. #womensart #womenspoetry
