Kudos to the @reuters.com team that reported this. "Heat storms" is a great term for what we're experiencing. And I'll never forget the anecdote about the nosebleed 😱https://www.reuters.com/investigates/special-report/climate-heatstorms-science/

The National Zoo has come up with three possible names for a female red panda that is roughly 4 months old — and you can vote on her name for the next few days. Keepers say she’s bold and feisty and call her the “most vocal” of the trio of red pandas born earlier this year. https://wapo.st/4yniduq

1/ If you’re in D.C. for AUSA’s conference, we want to hear from you. We’ve been reporting on the $1 trillion dollar black hole of the U.S. military budget, and we’re looking for insiders to help us find out: Is all of that money really making our country safer?

So I edited this story. And I wanna share on thought on language, & telling the truth We talked about: the "government is lying to you" It may sound saucy. It may sound like opinion But it's just true And if something is true then you should just say it, clearly That's just good journalism

Eric Umansky@ericumansky.bsky.social

"The federal government is lying to you." "The government has said that ICE does not zip tie or handcuff children." "They’ve denied engaging in racial profiling" "They’ve said the government is not wrongly arresting U.S. citizens." *We found the truth* projects.propublica.org/american-cit....

I LOVE how @propublica.org dealt with official comment here, editorially and stylistically.

Ken Schwencke@schwanksta.com

A year ago, @propublica.org told you immigration agents had detained more than 170 U.S. citizens. We’ve updated our count, and we’ve got all the receipts. The tally: At least 506 citizens detained. Sometimes held at gunpoint, handcuffed, or even deported. projects.propublica.org/american-cit...

Once again, @propublica.org is doing the work that would normally be done by the government

12/ We spent months compiling every case we could find of immigration agents detaining Americans. We did it because the government hasn't. And now, we're sharing every one of those cases with you. Explore our database: propub.li/4egbSK2

NEW: Remember when John Oliver opened a church to expose how easy it was to get tax exemptions? This year, ProPublica reporters set out to establish private schools to test if, truly, anyone could open one. We founded two. Here’s how.

propublica.orgHow ProPublica Reporters Became Private School Owners in 24 HoursThe reporting experiment demonstrates how easy it can be to open private schools that might then access public money. No credentials or background checks required.

I have zero teaching credentials, but based on this terrifying quiz I could open Ye Olde New Venture Academy in Maine and 17 other states. projects.propublica.org/private-scho... I guess I could teach the students how to yell at the TV during GBBO. "Never attempt a sugar dome, you idiot!"

This is very wonky and utterly infuriating. Logging companies (w/help from IKEA!) say *literally cutting down trees* should count as carbon negative and be credited as good for the planet. And they might get away with it. newrepublic.com/article/2157...
